Major issues connecting to SEA server - HamiltonNZ

Hi guys, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, or if TL allow tech-related posts such as this, but I can't find any guidelines suggesting against it (correct me if I'm wrong, in a respectful manner) so I'm coming here out of desperation in the hope someone here is able to help.

This is from my original thread on the SC2 SEA Tech forums, unfortunately Blizzard haven't really responded after the 1st post their employee made, I'm sure they're very busy so no assumptions made or hating given. I'm hoping someone here can help us shed some light on this issue.

http://sea.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/364296427?page=1#new-post

When I load up SC2 SEA client it comes to the login screen, the news window on the left takes a while to appear, then I enter my email and press enter, the password box takes much longer than usual to appear.

After I enter my password its 50/50 between whether or not I get the notification telling me I cannot connect to the SC2 servers & to check my internet connection and it logging me in.

If it successfully logs me in the chat windows, custom game tabs & maps, etc. take ages to load up, sometimes failing to do so and disconnecting me from the server altogether.

The funny part is that my internet is fine and I can connect to Diablo 3 and play it in public games just fine without lag. Other webpages load up at normal pace for me whilst the SC2 Official site takes a while.

Thanks - Ghosty

Edit: It's not likely to be my PC either as it is pretty high spec :\

Looks like you are getting a little packet loss from 8th node on so its unlikely to be a problem with your computer (virus etc)
basically I think your only solution to the problem would be move to different country / change ISP
Not what you want to hear im sure and you probably won't believe cause other games and regular internet work fine but I had same experience and only way to fix it was to move house
Really, why is real cheese so hard to come by in Korea? ^&^

Questions of a technical nature like this belong in the technical support forum rather than in SC2 General.

I'm not an expert on internet connectivity issues, but just looking at the number of hops you've got and the response time spike in the section where your request is bouncing around all the telstraglobal servers, it looks pretty clear that you've got a routing problem. It doesn't matter how good your computer is; the packets it sends out take forever to get to the SEA server. Your only bet in that case is changing ISPs to one that has a more direct connection to a server near the SEA server. I would reccomend just switching to EU, since your latency on SEA will be totally unplayable even if you can get a connection fast enough to not actually disconnect you.

Edit: Sorry, I was under the impression that OP was trying to connect from the UK due to his location setting (didn't notice that his trace started in NZ).

Thanks for the input guys, thanks semioldguy for moving to the right place too.
This is bad news if true. I don't get why it's all of a sudden started behaving like this the last 4 days when it has been fine for months before.

Just played 2 games on SEA ladder with no choppiness / stuttering, it could be dependent on the time of day and the # of people connecting to the Singapore SEA server maybe? It's now 12:14pm NZST

I am in New Zealand, I moved here just over a month ago, haven't gotten round to changing it yet.

US server is absolutely fine for me.

As of late there have been significant issues with routing (mostly with TPG in Australia, but I have heard complaints from other companies as well) in the SEA area, I, for instance, can not play on the US west Dota 2 servers without horrendous lag over the past 2 weeks or so. From the large amount of complaints around on ISP and Tech forums here in australia, i get the feeling theres an underlying issue we aren't being made aware of.

The best thing to do is to get in to contact with your ISP and see if they can figure out what the issue is (I have found forums to be a better way of getting things done than phone calls, as you have a record there in front of you as to what's been said and given).
