Hi guys,
My modem seems to disconnect during my games and worst of all it seems like it only disconnects in games im winning. Its an old modem (motorola) and i think that may be the problem. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips that could help me fix this or is buying a new one the only solution. Thanks for the feedback, if you need more information ill give it. |

Hey Tommy =] If your internet services provider gives modems (bell & rogers do) I would call them and ask for a modem upgarade. If they believe the modem isnt working they will send a new one for free.
Tech tip fix: if you look on the label under the modem there should be an IP adress : 192.168.0.xxx
trying going to this adress in your internet browser and seeing if you can connect fine to it, if you have any issues with that then its deffinetly the modem.
In general though you will save yourself a lot of time if you just get a new modem even if its not the problem at least your internet connection will be faster ;P |

this is simply not true. ( im a cable broadband tech) first of all, your moden will not have an ip adress of 192.168.x.x thats what your router's ip address may be, but not your modem. next make sure its your modem and not your router. connect directly to it and test it for a bit. if your still receiving disconnects then (if your cable and not dsl ect.. ) you could have a bad modem or you could have weak signal going to your modem. If you have a splitter in your room splitting the coax for a tv connection, try skipping that splitter and plugging the coax that comes into the room directly into your mode. if this doesnt work you may still need a hair more signal. look outside or in the crawl space to the house for additional splitters, you want yor modem to be coming off the first splitter if possible. most splitters tell how much signal each port loses, if its a 3-way splitter, 1 port will lose 3.5db while the other 2 ports lose 7, make sure your internet line is coming from the -3.5db port, if u can gain about 7db of signal from playing with your splitters and that still doesnt work, then i would call my isp and have them run an EQA. you could do this first, this tells you the signal levels of the modem and if there passing or not. if there passing i would get a new modem, you prolly rent your modem so your isp is should replace for free. if you don't then they will charge your for the service call, then charge you for the new modem if u take theirs. PM me if you have any specific questions regarding your cable if you need more help. ill be glad to assist |

Your modem would follow the format 192.168.X.xxx anyways some modems are 192.168.2.1
Also Warillions would you mind makeing that a little easier to read? a line space somewhere or something? Some people may not read that simply because its just a huge wall of text ..but im trying!Last edit: 2012-06-28 09:52:38 |

Was considering making a thread on this as I have the same issue.
SC2 is a catalyst for my internet disconnecting. I keep a log of when it goes, and literally 1 or 2 SC2 games, usually midway through the 2nd, my net dies. Sometimes my net will last for hours without a disconnect, then I play 15 mins of SC2, and it dies. Not my ethernet connection the router, but the net from the modem router to the exchange goes down, so no-one can use the net... Not really any idea why SC2 inflames my net issue. ((((((
I go direct through ethernet into the router, which goes through ADSL to the phone socket at the wall. Router is netgear Wireless DG34GT, with NIC integrated into asus x58 mobo.Last edit: 2012-06-28 10:36:42 |

| Arghnews have you tried playing any other online games and see if it does something similar? A few people are having weird issues due to starcraft but its usally during game startup or the launch of a game, not in the middle of it :/ |
