Hi,
Silver terran here
I 1rax expanded in this TvT, and found myself up against quick tanks. I scanned his base at around 6.15 but his attack hit me 2 mintues later with 3 tanks and some marines.
Is there anything i could have done to hold this off better?
Some things i have noticed from the replay:
Maybe if i had put my bunker at the ramp his tanks wouldn't have had such an easy time.
The engagement was awful i should have moved everything to the high ground.
I pretty much sacrificed my only tank.
Even if i had fixed these things though, i don't think i would have been able to hold that attack.

hey man just watched the replay ill touch on what i thought could have won you the game in a couple different sections. (and by the way you are playing very well for silver imo)
1. your build order is a bit inefficient, i agree with getting double gas but it was not until you had OVER 200 gas that you got your tech lab, so your stim was way way way too late, and if you are facing a tank push like that stim most likely wont be done so i always get combat shield first, thats just personal preference.
2. map presence, oh my god map presence. he didnt move out at all until his deathpush was coming so you could have had BOTH watchtowers and been so freaking prepared for that. just like in tvz you never let the bunker finish, you never let the tanks siege. you are going for marine heavy build which is going to give you an advantage if you can pincer attack him before he is sieged, because your marines will outnumber his.
3.dont be afraid to pull scvs, and i mean like ALL your scvs at your nat, after a tank push off 1 base like that you will still be ahead in workers AND be able to outproduce him with 2 oc's. use your scvs to take shots from tanks and get up close and personal wit dem tanks !!
4.im kind of referencing #1 here, your build order is not optimal, i suggest trying out thorzains tvt build featured in a daily by day 9, day9.tv/archives, just search thorzain tvt. and another option is going double gas after 1 rax fe BEFORE additional 2 rax and just rushing to 1-1-1 after your expo. this should have tanks out and siege mode ready for a push like that.

You scanned his tech and production and unit count and saw a 1base tank allin coming. Push out with your marines, take the watchtowers and force him to siege a couple of times on his way to your base. Don't engage when he sieges, just delay the attack. This will buy you time to get some more marines and your own tanks.
When he was sieged in front of your natural, you moved all your SCVs + Marines up the ramp. By this time, you doubled his SCV count and even after losing every single SCV at the natural you were still ahead in the worker count. I'm not a Terran player, but I think you could've won the engagement by pulling all your SCVs from the nat and attacking with your marines + tank at the same time. Probably presplit them a little, so they are not too clumped up.

I think i may stick with my build order, but i just executed very poorly here. I was actually trying to do filter's build, but i got a little confused :/
Funnily enough i never seem to pull my SCVs when i'm in trouble i should really try doing that. |

i love filters guide its awesome, get that tech lab as soon as you have 25 gas and just as Jebediah said every second you delay him sieging on your natural the more you will have to crush his 1 base push. gl friend.
edit:check filters timings on factory, i believe its approximately 6:50 try to hit that timing if not earlier. i personallly prefer marine tank to bio which is what he uses in his guides, so i like to just pump a shit ton of marines and crush anything that comes my way.Last edit: 2012-06-25 21:33:23 |
