Diablo 3 players per class statistics

A friend claimed he found some official information on the relative rate of play for the diffrent classes, like 40% DH, 30% barbarian etc.etc. However, he can no longer find the link.

Does anyone know where you can find this sort of information? would be fun to know.
(If possible, also broken down by softcore / hardcore)

I'm really curious about this as well. I've mostly played solo and I'm not even 60 yet but so far I've seen very few witchdoctors and about an even distribution of every other class.

They often release some stats with news about updates or design philosophy, you should try these.

If you want a rough estimate, look at the post count of the class discussion threads in this forum. They seem pretty accurate a gauge as to the class distribution, as well as about in line with what blizz has said about the class distribution in Hardcore. Both would give biased accounts of class distribution in relation to the overall game, but it seems like the bias is not that great. (Of course, bearing in mind the melee bias in HC.)

Thanks that answered everything I wanted to know. Found the "your favorite act" question pretty interesting. Seems like Act 2 is the least liked. I definitely agree with that, its really not as fun as the others. I liked 1 the most, the scenery and music were really good, the pacing is just right, and the boss fights are pretty fun and interesting. D3 designers did an AMA www.reddit.com/r/diablo a few weeks ago and they stated the hardcore class distribution. The transcript can be found here:

Level 46-50:

Barbarian: 25.86%
Monk: 23.90%
Demon Hunter: 18.47%
Wizard: 16.96%
Witch Doctor: 14.81%

Level 60:

Barbarian: 22.67%
Monk: 21.83%
Demon Hunter: 21.04%
Wizard: 19.23%
Witch Doctor: 15.23%

Note that at that time only 4.1% of all characters created were hardcore.

To the best of my knowledge the stats for softcore have not been released.

The problem with the HC stats is that DH are underrepresented, as they are impossible to play beyond Act I Inferno.
