New PSU, USB Power Problem.

Hi All,

Power Supply died a few days ago to a power surge (i think), while the machine was on. Fairly usual that they go once in a while (FYI Surge protectors are pretty worthless).
I purchased a new PSU which is the exact same model and Watts as my previous one. Installed it, and started the machine.

Once the machine started, it went straight to windows as normal, no error messages, nada. Mouse and Keyboard (Note: BOTH only have USB Connections) work fine, but all other devices connected to any USB port do NOT work. This includes, IPods, Wireless, Memory Sticks, AMP.
Now Windows detects no errors at all, and states that all the ports are active and working.

My first thought is that perhaps it was the Power supply which was faulty, but alas i tried it on a different machine and it's fine. All i can think of is that it must be the Mobo which is damaged, but how does that even make sense if the Keyboard and Mouse work?

Any ideas?

Yup, any port. Think USBs have high power and low power settings depending on the device connected? So might be something to do with that, but no idea really.

This thread interests me greatly; I had to use a hair dryer to cook up the PSU to get my old PC to start after being turned off and unplugged during vacation. I get it to start and then the PSU blows (loud pops, ozone smoke).

I get an identical PSU from a friend and hook it up; the PC starts right up like a champ but none of the USB's work...

how does a simple computer problem always end up taking many frustrating hours to fix?
