Introduction:
Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.
The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules:
Cheating:
Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information.
2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town.
3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role.
4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles.
5. Posting screenshots of your inbox.
6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host.
7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip.
8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits.
10. Sharing accounts with other players unless cleared by the host in advance. Otherwise, only you may post on your account.
11. Breadcrumbing the specific phrasing of your role PM. Do not compare the phrasing in your role PM to prove your alignment. You can claim the abilities you have, but you can't use the specific phrasing of your role PM.
Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.

Activity:
You must post in this thread once per day/night cycle and vote every day while you are alive. If you fail to do so, you will be modkilled.

Editing:
Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you have to edit anything.
Inappropriate posts:
If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host, Flamewheel, or Mig before involving the TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally.
I expect everyone to treat each other civilly. Attack the argument, not the player. Failure to do so will result in a warning, followed by a modkill if inappropriate posting continues
Reporting posts:
The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to the host, co-host, Flamewheel, or Mig before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately.
Ban discussions:
Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game.
Play to win.
This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing.
This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM your host if you need to leave the game.

Voting rules:
1. Voting is done in this thread. Please keep votes here, and only vote here. Do not PM me your vote.
2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote Qatol. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update vote counts whenever I get the chance.
3. No conditional voting.
4. You may not vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game.
5. In the event of a tie the person with the most votes first is lynched.
6. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain.
7. Whomever has the most votes at the end of the day will be lynched!

This game is open to Newbies Only. That means 3 games or less played on TL.

This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM Flamewheel or post in the Ban List.
Replacements
This game will use replacements if possible. You are encouraged to find your own replacement.

There are no clues.
PMs
PMs are not allowed in this game.
Time Cycle:
This game will follow a 24 hour night/48 hour day cycle. In case I am not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. Currently the deadline is 22:00 ADT[local], but that is subject to change. Actions/votes will be accepted up to and including the posted time, but not after.

This is an OPEN setup. That means all roles and role counts are disclosed.
Town Roles:
Vanilla Town (6): You have nothing but your voice and your vote. Make them count! You win when all mafia have been eliminated.
Detective (1): You like to creep around at night, and fortunately you get paid for it! What luck! Each night you may investigate a player to determine their alignment. You will be told if the player you investigated is Guilty or Innocent. You win when all mafia have been eliminated.
Medic (1): You have a knack for staunching wounds! Each night you may protect one player. If that player is shot during the night, you will prevent them from dying. You and your target will be both be informed in the event of a successful protection. You win when all mafia have been eliminated.
Tracker (1): With all these people creeping around at night, you make it your job to follow them. Each night you may target one player to track. You will find out who that player visited during the night, or if they visited no one at all. However, you always track mafia players to whom they are using their power on, not to the kill. You win when all mafia have been eliminated.
Miller (1): You like to snoop in other peoples trash, and maybe peer in a few windows. All in the name of making sure no one is doing anything illegal of course. However, people tend to get the wrong idea about you. The Miller will be tracked to a random player each night, and will show up as Guilty to detective checks. Additionally the Miller DOES NOT know he is a miller, and receives the same role PM as a vanilla town.
Mafia Roles:
Godfather (1): The unmatched master of the underworld. You're so well insulated that no charge ever sticks, be it a misdemeanor or a criminal offense. You return Innocent to all investigative checks. You also return as Did not visit to any tracker checks. You win when the amount of Mafia alive equals the amount of Town alive or when nothing can stop that from happening.
Role Cop (1): Each night you may investigate one player to determine if they have a role. You will find out if they have a role, or no role. Due to the heuristics you are using, the Miller will appear to have a role. You win when the amount of Mafia alive equals the amount of Town alive or when nothing can stop that from happening.
Roleblocker (1): Each night you can lurk outside someones house and frighten them into remaining home. Whichever player you target at night will lose their ability for that night. Detectives and Trackers will not get a result, Medics will not protect their target. You win when the amount of Mafia alive equals the amount of Town alive or when nothing can stop that from happening.
Things to keep in mind:
*The Godfather is immune to tracking.
*The godfather will return as Innocent, and a miller with return as Guilty to detective checks.
*The Miller will show up to tracking as visiting a random player.
*Mafia players will be tracked to the target of their roles, not to the kill target. In the event a mafia player does NOT use his role, he will be tracked to the kill target.
*Players will be notified if they are roleblocked, whether they have a role or not.
Balance:
This setup is fairly well balanced, though somewhat town favored. If this was run as a normal mini, I think I would use 1 less townie in the setup(8v3 instead of 9v3). Given that Newbie towns are inherently disadvantaged vs newbie mafia, it makes sense to have the setup slightly skewed in favor of town.

Yes, whomever has the most votes at the end of the day is lynched(ie, Plurality)
I'm ok with you playing in 2 games, though I don't recommend it. However, if you feel you have the time and effort to play well in 2 games at the same time, then more power to you. I do think there is a tendancy for people to end up playing poorly in both games though |

Marvellosity is right. When a Tracker tracks a Vanilla townie, the result will come back as Did Not Visit.
So in essence the Godfather appears as a townie to tracker checks in addition to appearing as a townie to detective checks.

PMs are not allowed in this game.
Just looking for some clarification on the no PM rule. As I understand it, this forbids the use of teamliquid.net PMs, but does this prohibit other forms of contact out of the game-thread itself (i.e. 3rd party chat programs, IRC, etc)? |
