| It's not against the law to tear down your own house. I think you should reflect on why, however, burning it down might be illegal. |

Really?
Wasting the fire dept's time, risking firefighter's lives, insurance fraud, harming the environment, destroying the bank's collateral, wasting police time, risking damage to neighboring property... |

LOL. It's not like he died in a battle or died fighting. He swallowed a pill because he was scared of prison. I wouldn't call that "balls". |

So this guy couldn't just give up his million dollar property to the banks and get a smaller apartment instead? Sure it's a downgrade but you don't HAVE to have a mansion.
His rationale baffles me, I won't judge on his suicide because I just can't seem to understand his viewpoint. |

16 years was the maximum possible sentence. Not that it matters, you just wanted to come in here and hate on America for no reason at all. |

He probably didn't want to go bankrupt, because that seems like it could ruin his career. Would you want one of your finance employees to have gone bankrupt himself, because he couldn't handle his own money? By burning down the house, he gets to collect insurance, although it would be pretty obvious that there was foul play involved due to the extremely convenient timing. |

I thought he commited suicide because he didn't want to go to prison, which I can understand. I'm just wondering how he got the cyanide into the courtroom, did they not search him or anything? |

From what I understand is that before you're convicted no one will strip him naked to find out what he's carrying around. Like no one will force you to remove a candy or something. |

A lot of people attempt suicide rather than go to jail. |

This calls to mind a quote from Machiavelli along the lines of this: Men must be either pampered or weak for they are able to take revenge for slight transgressions, but not for serious ones.
Sad but seemingly true, don't fk the fker's - only they get to fk ppl and they make sure of that.
Edit: more thoughts
This business suicide guy isn't anything new in the business world. Back when the first great depression happened and the stock market crashed there were many businessmen who simply threw themselves out of the closest window. Good riddance imo. How can someone do so much in a country, work so hard, accumulate wealth, and then become so lost in a life of luxury such that life is no longer worth living when you are as 'rich' as the vast majority of your countrymen/or you are jailed just like many in this country are? In that situation suicide is a pretty good idea.
But refusing to sell his mansion and downsize? Shit, he must have really loved that house.Last edit: 2012-07-01 05:24:18 |

It's illegal to burn down your goddamn entire house because you start a massive uncontrolled fire for the sole purpose of insurance fraud.
Pretty freaking obvious why it's against the law.
Anyways, I understand where the businessman is coming from. His entire world is gone, career prospects likely in the shitter after serving a sentence for arson, friends and family probably not supportive or likely to help (if he has any left). He wasn't exactly young and the idea of essentially starting over made him opt out. Last edit: 2012-07-01 05:40:44 |
