Hi, low masters Terran here. I'm having trouble dealing with harass. Almost any sort of harassment throws me off quite a bit and makes me extremely annoyed and angry.
Examples are banshee harass, drops, muta play, ling runbys, blink stalkers, warp-ins, warp prism drops, and even worker harass when i'm building stuff. I have countless more. I think this is why I keep losing in masters, I lose way too many things when I'm not supposed to be.
Does harass bother u a lot? And even throw you off guard? If so, how did u overcome it or how are trying to overcome it?
What's the GENERAL way of dealing with these harasses?: drops banshee harass blink stalkers
I'm capitalizing general because I do not want to post replays as I have none atm, and I just want a GENERAL idea of dealing with certain situations.
Thanks in advance! |

| Just send enough units to kill the harrass? I don't think there is any secret really besides maybe scouting and preparing for things with turrets and such. |

| yea static defence is great, but since u're terran scouting gonna help you. I would suggest you try to get a even footing with your own harass |

Yea i get frustrated too but here are some points to help you out.
- Keep your cool, you will make better decision when u are calmer. - If you have a good feeling he is going to harass u, prepare for it without overreacting to it.
Against the harasses lets assume u don't already have unit there: - For drops, pull units back to defend it, preferably just the needed amount. Always better to pull more since better safe than sorry.
- Banshee, practice using marines against banshees with cloak. Scan is very limited early on so u want to burn it only when u are positive u will hit the banshee. His goal is to kite u to the edge and outrange you. But u can dance with him since if he's out there, he wants to go in to hit your marine/scv. So when he's moving forward, anticipate it, scan, and attack. Its not as simple as just that, which is why ill have to dance with ur opponent a bit. During the time ur marines are delaying the banshee, u should get up a ebay and depending on what opening u did, a viking. But most of all, get to the point where u are comfortable dealign with marines.
-Blink stalkers are difficult to deal with. Best thing i thing is to if possible snipe the obs, but that not always an option. So if u cannot, the moment u confirm its blinks stalkers, bunker near ur ramp and bunker near ur main cc. Ur goal is to cover ur flank with that bunker so that if the stalkers are to blink up, they have to go thru the bunker first. don't place that bunker right on the edge as stalkers will just focus it down fast. Place is almost midway between the ledge and ur minerals. Otherwise, just keep scaring the stalkers off while u get more marauders and possibly medics if he doesn't retreat.
Above all else, practice against the harass. if you know what u need to do and have experienced it before, soon you will notice that harass gets easier to deal with. Always keep in mind though that just because u know how to deal with it, u aren't completely safe from harass. There are so many factors in a game that can take a toll on your multitasking and u will make mistakes, he might be MKP micro, etc. Sometimes u will just get outplayed so gg wp. |

I used to get totally thrown off my build just by getting scouted. The most important thing in dealing with harass is map control eg vision and minimap awareness. Scouting so you know what you should be prepared for and having good multitasking is up there aswell.
If you are masters you should be good enough to watch some GSL and just incorporate what the top players do into your game. Other than that it's hard to be general since there is quite a big difference between the types of harass.
I mean take banshee for example. Some like viking raven. Some like marine scan. Some like marine turret. Depends alot on what build your going for in different matchups also. How big risk you want to take to get more eco or army incase there are no banshees. If you try to be safe against everything you probably won't beat anything ^^
For me overcoming my harass problems had alot to do with multitask training. So I could do what I did AND handle the harass at the same time. Also becoming more aware of the minimap and puting buildings/overlords where they give me more vision.
I am no where near your level but I think what I say applies to all levels of play. Just want to be honest. Hope it helps! |

Overall, the combination of camera locations, minimap awareness, and "drop paranoia" should be enough to deal with harassment. Learn how to deal with each type of harassment correctly, and then just practice those principles when playing.
For instance: for blink stalkers, you want to have a bunker up at your natural and a bunker up in your main between your mineral line and the edge. Just rally to your ramp and dance back and forth to deal with it, pulling SCVs for the repair if necessary. Once you have that down, know the general timing of a blink stalker harass and be prepared to execute what you practiced based on scouting information.
For drops, just remember that they're meant to divert attention. Meaning: if there's a drop in your main, IMMEDIATELY think "he's going to try an drop my 3rd". Or expect a frontal assault at your natural. From there, all you have to worry about is making sure you pull your workers quickly and position your units well, bringing ONLY WHATS NECESSARY to clean up the drop and leaving the rest of your army ready to defend the 3rd or nautral.
"Drop paranoia" is something I like to refer to. It's essentially a gut feeling that at any point when you move out or your opponent sees any major part of your army, you're going to be dropped on the opposite side of the map. Be prepared to deal with this and expect it to happen, because it will 50% of the time or more. |

Use more control groups! For instance if you have your main army in like 3 control groups, then use a fourth to be like 20 marines so that the second you see a drop (even if it's double drop) you can handle it quickly. Camera hotkeys also help. You see the drop and all you need to do is (select group) + (camera hotkey) + a-move.
Having camera hotkeys for all your bases also makes it easier to quickly mineral walk your workers to another base, just (camera 1) + (box SCVs) + (camera 2) + click minerals.
The last thing I would recommend on top of what people have said before (map awareness is key!) is to not always rally your reinforcements right to your main army but keep them back a bit. This combined with having a camera hotkey for your rally point makes it easier to use your reinforcements to deal with it. |

well, the best way to prevent it is to scout it, however if you don't scout it:
depending on the harrass, you need to make the decision of whether to bring your entire army over or not. if it's something like mutas, i recomend you split your army
next thing you should do is change your rally points preferably to somewhere between your bases. this way your units don't die instantly and they're also in position to defend your front. |
