| Hello, i'm a platinum zerg player and recently i've been kind of unhappy with zerg, how hard is it to switch races? If people who have done it could say how long it took, if it was worth it etc. Thanks. |

The way I see it, with race switching, there are two outcomes:
1) you switch and you find out that the new race is a much better fit for you 2) you realize your claims of 'imba' aren't as true as you thought and you go back to playing your original race (not saying you claimed imba).
Why do you want to switch races? Why are you unhappy with zerg? |

played protoss to masters, stopped playing, started at bronze played zerg to high diamond.. stopped playing, came back as terran... never got past plat... stopped playing... back to toss, workin thru diamond atm
switching races really isnt that big of a deal.... before diamond your build/build order means nothing its just macroing etc
just my opinion... people are gonna flame me for saying builds even matter in diamond,.. and in truth is if u learn to do some build u copied from a tournament, and get really crisp with it.. u can prob get into masters with one build if u do it well enoughLast edit: 2012-06-30 16:59:25 |

it's fairly easy. I main Z but this last season i started with a fresh mmr w/ T and the transition was fairly quick. Just get a build for each mu and play games until you have it down. I have played about 100 games in total and I am already in plat w/ T (masters Z) and I just open 1 rax fe all mu's. |

Well assuming your not playing against grandmaster players, it shouldn't be too bad. Obviously your skill initially might drop but with some dedication it won't be that much of a struggle to switch. As your general APM carries over regardless of race.
And first reply, your post is trash. I take it you never browsed this site before you signed up. Because posts like that are gonna get you warned and/or banned before you know it..Last edit: 2012-06-30 17:00:31 |

Depends. If youre going for a specific rank?
It's hard.
If you're trying to have fun?
It's easy.
edit: its def. dooable. Played P all beta/early release, went random for a few months, and now main terran for over a year. Last edit: 2012-06-30 17:09:00 |

It's really hard. You need to have a real passion for your new race to keep you going through the basic race routines, hotkeys, build orders and timings just to get to where you were before. If you're switching just because you're bored or frustrated with your current race, then the switch is very unlikely to make you feel happier while playing.
I tried it like 3 times, longest I've lasted is a month before going back to Protoss (and I hate Protoss).Last edit: 2012-06-30 17:07:19 |

Hey OP! Changing races is not that difficult if you are determined to learn the race. I played Protoss to Diamond, switched to Zerg (this is season 1) and still remained in Diamond :D! I stayed Zerg and got to masters, after finishing season 6, I wanted to try Terran and bought a new account. Played Terran, got to high plat because I bought it the week season was locked >.> Next season I got to Masters immediately an then took a hiatus to play Zerg and got demoted to Diamond ...then recently got to Masters (mid) once again :D!
Just all in determination in my opinion. But because you're in plat, you'll probably be silver-low gold if you're JUST starting to play a new race. (Terran will be hardest to learn because of different macro ways and waaaaaaaay more micro) Gl! |

hahahahahaha i love how you have protoss hate written all over you.
switching races will be hard. you've got to get used to a whole new set of mechanics. because you're in plat, your mechanics aren't quite there yet (master league mechanics suck so bad too) so expect to drop a league or two.
if you are switching to Terran, battle engagements will be very micro-intensive. if you are switching to Protoss, practice force fields and you should be okay :D
whatever you do though, make sure to pick a macro build to practice over and over again until you get a feel for how the race works.

I really don't want to get into this little debate, but I feel the need to say that Terran does not need way more micro, That is something that terrans seem to tell themselves but as a person that plays both races I don't think that the micro is any harder and if you are controlling Z correctly they both take lots of micro. |

There was a period where I felt like off racing as zerg, my main being terran. What I did was spam out team games, which meant I didn't have to worry about any strats or anything and I could just focus on mechanics, i.e creep spread, drone production, unit control and larva injects. Try that.
It didn't take me very long get to the same level of play as my main at platinum level, maybe 30-40 games ish. Since I played a lot of TvZ I already sort of knew the ZvT playstyle and I could defeat most terrans my level. PvZ was a different matchup entirely tho and I had no idea what to do there.
If you don't like your current race I'd say it's worth just taking a week or two playing another race to get a feel for it. If nothing else you'll learn new things about the race.

What differece does it make why he's unhappy, and he's never claimed anything about other races being imba.Last edit: 2012-06-30 17:23:58 |

He's only platinum as Zerg, that's why I said "waaaaaaay". Just from experience :D (I main Zerg and at the moment 600 points in masters :O) And my Terran is at 400. (in masters of course)
Again, he's only platinum, so TvZ will be a hassle for him, and so will TvP.
