http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-29/vivendi-said-to-plan-sale-of-stake-in-activision-blizzard.html
Vivendi SA (VIV), the media and telecommunications company that ousted its chief executive this week, has decided to seek a buyer for its $8.1 billion stake in Activision Blizzard Inc. (ATVI), a person with knowledge of the situation said. Should no buyer emerge for the 61 percent holding in the Santa Monica, California-based video-game publisher, Paris-based Vivendi plans to sell shares in the market, said the person, who sought anonymity because the plans are private.
Vivendi, the company the owns ActivisonBlizzard, is looking to sell their stake of the joint companies for $8.1 billion.
If they don't get a buyer, they are looking towards selling the shares to the market. It seems the main reason for this, is they are seeing a large growth in the social media sector, and the decline of traditional home consoles from Micro, Sony, and Nintendo is their reason for selling their shares and putting the money towards the social media side of things.
What do you guys think about this, who could possibly step up to the plate and buyout ActivisionBlizzard?
Google methinks
edit: Apparently the Vivendi CEO stepped down, because he was opposed to the sale, however the board pushed for it. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/international-business/european-business/vivendi-ceo-jean-bernard-levy-steps-down/article4376782/Last edit: 2012-07-01 07:39:49 |

Nope. D3 soured me on Blizzards ability to put out high quality games. They sold out in favor of the RMAH (dumbing down the game and making everything RMAH-centric) and are no longer the quality company they once were.
No buy.Last edit: 2012-07-01 07:39:37 |

I'd rather we all bought a piece than any other company.

How big of a part do they actually have? 8.1 billion dollars worth of stock, ok, but how much is that of the whole company? Still pretty interesting. I hope we don't get another old business man who has no clue about games who's gonna push release dates for their games =( Cod is bad enough. We don't need an unbalanced Legacy of the Void released december 2012 :/ |

| Hope the new owners will be able to produce quality games once again. Every single game/expansion after Wow:TBC has been a disappointment except SC2 |

I wonder if the next-gen MMO Titan is part of the calculation when trying to get a good price for their share.
What if Titan is the real WoW killer and will have like 15 million subs? |

I doubt Vivendi are selling up before Blizz release a "wow killer". |

Riot definitely doesn't have that much but Tencent (who bought Riot) can since they are the third largest Internet company in the world behind Google and Amazon. |

Should we all start a kickstarter project to buy Blizz? Sounds like a plan.
I hope that it goes to someone good, not like Apple or some crap. |

I say we just launch a huge internet campaign to get Valve to buy it.
Can you imagine HotS... but with HATS?! |
