You mistake vision for luck.
It was luck that made Half-Life one of the best, and more importantly, most dynamic games ever?

I can see the definate advantage of selling right now. I cant see Blizzard ever being more valube as a company since they have:

1. By FAR the best and most sucessful MMO on the market.
2. What is probably the best and most popular RTS game in the world in SC2.
3. Diablo 3 which if you combine the great sales and the real money AH is making money hand over fist.

Then you go on over to Activision where most people suspect CoD has probably peaked which means its value is at its highest it will be so if you combine all of that now seems like perfect time to sell.

Good thing that is like only your opinion man.

That's crazy talk; at least in my opinion. Google wouldn't dive into something like this randomly with hardly any existing entertainment development infrastructure or experience. They'd first start something themselves and have it grow a bit, THEN make a bigger jump.

Microsoft would be even more likely, but I wouldn't think they'd do it, personally.

I would hate for EA to do it, but apparently they can't?

So if that's the case... what are the possible organizations that could buy it?
Microsoft? Sony? Nintendo? Those seem quite unlikely to me (and some are maybe impossible — I don't really know much and am just speculating)

Does Valve have the sort of capital to do it? Even if they did, they're a private company (aren't they) and probably wouldn't want to stake in this.

As I already said, it won't be another developer.

Warcraft 4 came out years ago: it was called World of Warcraft. I would not expect any kind of other Warcraft game to come out after WoW.

To me, it's pretty clear that no one is going to buy the whole package because it's just too expensive. I'm curious how desirable a sale on the market is for all those involved.

To people complaining about D3, at least to me, it seemed as though they made the game somewhat incomplete on purpose to make money off an expansion pack. I thought it was fun, but there was a lot of stuff I would have liked to see, it was too short. But I thought at least they were trying to make it similar to HOTS where if you buy it, you get access to all these cool new features that could potentially make the game infinitely better. I would not be surprised to see D3 get at least 2 expansions or more.

Now if you don't like the fact that blizzard of doing this, fine but it is a reasonable and logical business decision to make money. People bash on blizzard for being greedy, but greed is good and keeps the company alive. They can't be a small niche company, they wouldn't survive.

Greed is never good and shouldn't be necessary to keep a company alive. It wasn't greed that got these companies to the top.

In the short term, you can be greedy at the cost of the content. It sure does hurt you in the long term, when you lose customers who get tired of the bullshit.
I think Netflix is the best example of moneygrubbing gone wrong. Most get away with it, but most also don't do it so blatantly.

Greed is not inherently a bad thing. Greed is necessary for a Capitalistic society to function.

Blizz is abusing the faith it gained from it's past success putting out shitty products like D3. Activision did the same with a CoD title each year. They are just trying to milk as much money as they can and they only get away with it because of how bad the video game industry is at reviews and the blind faith from the people who play the games because of the name. They make a lot of money right now but people are starting to get hostile to ActiBlizz after the mess of D3 and MW really declining and trust in the company is getting destroyed.

Diablo 3 <<<<<< Diablo 2
SC2 < SCBW
WoW <<<<< majority of games ever made (yes it's my opinion)

Many of us old Blizzard fans are just very sad to see what was probably in the top 3 big game studios horribly plummet in quality of output. Games nowadays have gotten less creative (where are the new oddworlds?), less in-depth (Mass Effect compared to Baldur's Gate 2 or Fallout 1), less expansive (CoD compared to any of the many quality shooters in the past), and so many sequels are disappointing failures that go in all the wrong directions. Blizzard is a part of this rot.

Valve and Rockstar are to my mind the only big ones that still actually make an effort (might be forgetting another one). Creative Assembly and Eidos try and aren't bad. Blizzard has just horribly declined in quality.

I think it has less to do with quality decline, and more to do with you growing tired of games. If you notice, the people that generally dislike modern games have been playing games for ages... and they played the shit out of them. Meanwhile, everybody else ( the "mainstream") are newer gamers that havent been playing games since they were able to hold a controller.

You have a feeling of nostalgia linked to old games, you remember how you felt when you first encountered mechanic X in game Y. Now you have played so many games that it is amazingly difficult to come up with a new mechanic X just because of the sheer number of games that you have played over the years. Games arent getting worse, I cant think of any major modern game that hasnt improved on the old formula.

Sure, vision and creativity made it one of the best games ever. Being released at the right time (luck) made it a commercial success. There are plenty of fantastic, innovative games that never get commercially successful. There's a reason why indie developers are all asking for funds on Kickstarter.

As a player that hasn't really "grown up" with playing Diablo 2 and only picked it up a year before D3's release and played through it I personally like Diablo 3 a lot more then D2. D2 isn't a bad game per se but is so incredibly outdated and cumbersome in many places (skills and such) that older players really don't realize because they're so used how it works. The talent tree is abysmal, getting shot several screens away. Using Bash for 30 levels until I can unlock whirlwind.

D3 has it's problems but overall I find it a better game, and the problems it has can be fixed through patches.

Starcraft 2 has issues as well, the story of the singleplayer wasn't particulary amazing but the missions were really fun and well designed. Really well designed. One of the best in a rts for sure ever. The multiplayer has issues for sure, but Heart of the Swarm is heading in the right direction so I'm not that worried for the future of SC II. Will their be things that are better in SC: BW? Sure but SC2 is still a fine game.

That aside.

The new oddworld games? Despite their brilliance they weren't really all that profitable. there's a remake coming with a new engine. Let's see if it keeps the atmosphere intact.

I personally didn't found Fallout 1 all that deep gameplay wise. It just had a shit ton of choices storywise (which I loved).

Also, mentioning Rockstar is laughable, Max Payne 3 wasn't amazing and although I liked GTA IV a lot. The game didn't really improve gameplay wise a lot. The series has in that regard stagnated a ton. Sleeping Dogs looks like to be advancing that particular sandbox game more gameplay wise.

Diablo 3 is only a failure in the eyes of a small minority of hardcore players, because the endgame is actually terribad.

The vast majority of D3 players will never even finish Nightmare. It sold like hotcakes and the expansion will sell like hotcakes.

Anyway, this is Vivendi selling their assets, not Activision Blizzard selling Blizzard.

WoW is the best game ever made in mine.

I played it day in and day out for 4 years straight. And I was enjoying myself throughout.

10 million people seem to share this opinion.

That's actually not true. Blizzard still has a great reputation.

What exactly are you comparing to anyway?
Compare Blizzard to Activision or EA in the way they're run. Holy moly.
EA releases shit that Blizzard gamers would consider beta, and make patches into DLCs. When there aren't enough players playing the game they shut down multiplayer. I mean just the fact that they intentionally remove parts of the game and call them DLCs at release is amazing that they can get away with. I'd rather burn my money than give it to EA.
Activison releases the same game with new skins every year and prize it 60 euroes.

I know activison and blizzard are together now, but they still seem to have a different management. If blizzard went with the activison model we'd have HotS last year that was the exact same as SC2 but with a new texture pack and a 5 hour single player. Also they wouldn't bother balancing it.

Blizzard still releases great games, and I can't wait until I get my hands on HotS. Damn it's going to be good.
