I went for early hatchery and he did dmg but we were even by the time his aggression stopped and I have no idea how he could afford roaches with +1 upgrades spines and 10 mutas while I could barely afford anything.
It is just so hard for me to pinpoint what I did wrong, at the end there he had more drones because I invested in spores but he was still on 2 bases and was somehow able to remake his entire army after my roaches fought him at his main... maybe I droned too much after that fail push or maybe I shouldn't have sent the extra 10 roaches to die or maybe making infestors at that point was a mistake?
Please, i am clueless. the biggest issue for me that I don't understand is how he could manage to gather an army to fake an attack when I was taking my third and still able to afford going to mutas behind it in time for my counter... it just makes no sense to me... maybe I should have scouted for mutas and decide to be passive? I really don't know. I guess if I stayed passive and not got into his base and just prevent his third for as long as possible I would be better off but how could I deduce he's going mutas when he got a sizeable ground army aswell? it didn't even cross my mind.
Please help and only answers from top master-gm players.

I'm sorry but asking for answers only from top master-gm players isn't going to get very far. Top masters and gm players have better things to do then answer questions from seeming stuck up people. Just thought I would let you know what would happen when saying things like that. As to what you did wrong, I won't try since I'm not top masters or gm.. Hope you get answers. |

Updating while watching the replay: - The first thing I notice is that you don't get a spine crawler until you scout the large number of lings he has. If you go hatch first against a pool/gas opening, getting a spine crawler after your first four lings is a very useful against any kind of aggression.
-When you scout his lings, you build 2 spine crawlers instead of building zerglings, which would have been out by the time his attack hits. You could also then have morphed 2 banelings above your ramp while the queens were blocking and kept him out of your main.
-After his aggression, you were not as even as you think. You have no queens while he has 2 injecting, which allows him to get a 3-4 drone lead and keep that lead into the mid game. His bad macro (having 15 idle larvae with 500+ minerals) was what let you catch back up in drones.
-At 14:00 you launch your +1 timing with a considerable army advantage, but lose your advantage by running past the spines to the gas geysers, allowing his roaches to get free shots off. If you had attacked when you arrived at the bottom of his ramp you probably could have won the game, as his spines were about 75% done.
-The reason you lost the game was a combination of droning to hard after your attack and going for infestors at the same time. When you get infestors, you are extremely weak for the first few minutes that they are out because they haven't built up enough energy and the lack of roaches because of your droning meant that his 1/1 roaches and mutas were able to beat your army and win the game.
Overall you played pretty well, hit your injects from what I could see, just made a few incorrect decisions that cost you the game. It is very risky to drone after your attack has failed. Droning while you attack is safer, but be sure to switch back to units so that you can hold the inevitable counter attack. Also, Hydralisks are a better option to counter mutas than infestors initially, so try going for a hydra den and get out 8-10 hydras before you switch to infestors. |

Did you watch the replay? It shows everything you could have improved upon, for instance if you look at the 12:10~ mark you can see your army without even looking at the units tab is bigger which means you could have moved down, not canceled your 3rd base and been economically ahead.
Move your creep forward with overlords and move the spines down.
You also could have scouted alot better throughout the whole game. You shouldn't have pushed his natural, the cancel on the 3rd was enough. Scouting him again at that point would have been more benefical compared to losing your whole army without killing a drone. Had you not pushed his natural you would have likely defended that push and the counter would have killed him.
TL:DR, shouldn't have pushed his natural and lose everything after making him cancel his 3rd. More scouting needed.Last edit: 2012-07-03 02:41:39 |

Basically, you spent your gas on earlier upgrades and a lot of roaches for a timing attack. When your timing attack hit, you had 20 more roaches than him and +2 upgrades on the way as well as glial reconstitution. You were also making even more roaches at the time. Where you spent your money on an attack (that came too late because his mutas were already on the way) he spent his gas on mutas. Only after he made his 9 mutas did he start to upgrade. At this point, you have lost your army and are droning and making infestors. While you spend your gas on infestors, he makes roaches and since you have no backbone to your army, you die.
Pretty simple stuff. |

It doesn't take a top master/gm to tell you what went wrong here.
You were mining 3 gasses until about 16 minutes in the game. Your opponent was mining 4. Your opponent also had 60 workers versus your 48, which means he was mining more minerals (albeit inefficiently). He also had a macro hatch (you did not) and better injects (overall he had 43 to your 23). This is how he could afford the mutas AND roaches.
The mutas were a desperation move, but you didn't have the money to stave it off. If you had a macro hatch and the fourth gas sooner you could have sac'd the third, put down some spores and extra queens, fought off the roaches with defender's advatange (you were 2-0 versus 1-1), and denied the third while your queens helped you retake your own.

Hm you really took wayy too much damage to his initial attack, pretty standard 14/14 except it was poorly executed. his speed was super far ahead of yours and he attacked when yours was done. also if you are going hatch first make lings so that your ling count matches his. Make the spine way earlier too just watch the replay and drop it down at like 4:30ish i usually delay is so that it is just finishing up as the lings come in. And have all your queens on the ramp no reason for one to be out in front.
edit- also going hydras after roaches is safer cause with roaches as soon as the hydras pop they are ready.
