Hello everyone! This is the official thread for the one and only Amateur Championship for our next LIVE event, IGN Pro League 5! The WINNER of this Regional will earn free travel and hotel stay for the live event. They will also earn an automatic seed into Winners Round 3 at the event. Our North American, European, Korean, and International Regionals have already concluded. This Amateur Championship is open to everyone who have not earned more than $1,000 in live events and is the last chance for players to win a free trip to IPL5 (Upcoming Satellite events only earn qualification, not a free trip). You will want to play your absolute best to secure this amazing prize!
Unfortunately, we are not yet able to announce the date or location of our live event. All we can tell you is that it is coming up soon and these qualifiers were scheduled in a way that ensures that we have time for travel preparations to be made. If for any reason, a player who qualifies in these online qualifiers cannot make the trip to our live event, their registration fee will be refunded and we will use the Regional results to determine who will receive the free travel, hotel, and tournament seed instead.
When - Amateur Championship: July 7 2012 10:00 PDT[local] You can register any time before July 5 2012 23:59 PDT. There is no entry fee.
The registration link for the Amateur Championship on July 7th is closed! Please only register with your North American account.
The Format! Players should be online and ready to play within 30 minutes of the event's start time. Please be aware that these qualifiers can and will take a lot of time. Forfeits and walkovers will be used if needed. Each round is best of 3, with start maps labeled on the bracket. Players may be asked to wait to begin a series so that their match can be broadcast.
Servers: All games will be played on the North American server, unless specific permission is granted by our administrators.
Spectators Rule: No observers/spectators are allowed for these games. IGN Pro League admins and casters may make games for players to help things run smoother and either referee or cast the matches.
Players already receiving a free trip and WR3 at IPL5 are:
- FnaticRC.aLive (IPL4 Winner)
- x6.Sleep (North American Regional Winner)
- GL.Snute (European Regional Winner)
- MarineKing.Prime (Korean Regional Winner)
- iG.Xigua (Chinese Regional Winner)
- TSL.Polt (International Regional)
- Liquid`TaeJa (International Regional)

Nice idea, I guess some Korean who is forever stuck in Code B will make it but giving good chances to more unknown players is always good. Looking at sc2earnings.com players like MVPSniper would meet the requirements. There are sick players who did not shined in individual leages so far.Last edit: 2012-07-05 04:41:27 |

| Honestly, what is the point in an "amateur championship" when most of the players are on recognisable or even top teams. Shouldn't this be limited in some way to stop that? =/ It kinda defeats the point of the word "amateur" if you're gonna let pro's in... |

But some of the "pros" have made next to no money. Being on team to does not mean they get paid and hence they are sitll amateurs. |

Quick question, BBoongBBoong is signed up for this tournament apparently according to your list, yet he finished in Code S round of 32 this past season. Since Round 32 Code S gets paid 1,500,000 won, (approximately $1,279 US after conversion), according to
2012 Global StarCraft II League Season 3 how is he still eligible?
EDIT: Had wrong link at first, fixed.Last edit: 2012-07-05 06:08:54 |

| Not really a fan of this tournement tho, seems sorta wierd having a lot of top players qualify and then you will basicly get a person who will most likely get destroyed by thoes who qualified already Last edit: 2012-07-05 06:45:59 |

Then again, Scarlett wouldn't have been able to make the IPL4 run without a qualifier, players like Suppy have managed to make deep runs at MLG beating incontrol, bling, select, etc. on the way to the championship bracket despite not having previous big results offline. A qualifier like this I like more than having local people fill out the last few spots, as qualifiers give people tournament experience and prove that they can play under pressure at least online. I really like the idea of having qualifiers like this for at least some spots at a tournament like IPL.
I also didn't know that Echo won $1350 at a live event this past weekend. Which event was it? Remember that online tourney results are exempt from the earnings rule.

Also all these runs where made great by the fact you were competing on equal terms with everyone else(Yes you can get lucky in seeding but still). These runs where also contributed to the fact they were foreigners winning(No one really cares when less known koreans make it though)
When you make a qualifier where the top players get excluded, you will have a person who most likely is much worse qualify compaired to the rest. I am all for giving amateurs chances to prove them selfs, but i find stuff such as dream league much more suited for that, which i would really love to watch if something like that ever came around. Chances are these qualifiers based on who signs up will be won by a korean who most wont care aboutLast edit: 2012-07-05 06:45:40 |

Echo is canadian and the person who got third at UK is JohnnyRecco, who is from the UK, also considering Echo is canadian he can't even participate in the UK nationals. |

Took a few minutes to find the total winnings from live events, per player. I apologize if this is incorrect. I only used Liquipedia as a source.
AlastOr - $900 BboongBboong.Prime - $1279 (didn't do the rest because he shouldn't be considered amateur by IPL definition) Quantic.HasHe - $0 Acer.ParanOid - $0 Acer.Scarlett - $300 iS.jEcho - $0 ($675 if the GeForce Pro/Am was live and not online, but he would be considered either way) x6.Suppy - $1000+ (I stopped after I found that much winnings from live events.) iS.Sanddbox - $0 x6.Ver - $400 (possibly more, I would check him out) TD.Attero - Nothing exact, check on these tournaments GoSu.STX - Didn't do a lot of research. Benefit of the doubt for a Gosu player because of Doa x6.mkengyn - $0 SlayerS`Miya - Only noted non-online event was r48 Code A this season. Didn't find the exact amount, but I'll assume safe. Fuzer - $0 sCar - $0 Sickness - $0 KDY - $0 Royal - $0 GGanDoL - $0 |

GGanDoL made roughly $355 from getting into Code A Ro48. |

So is it safe to assume Miya made the same amount? If so they would still be considered amateur. |

~$350 due to fluctuating currency exchange. They would qualify, as would some other underrated Korean B-teamers. Last edit: 2012-07-05 08:29:31 |
