Our new Dota 2 dedicated server cluster located Stockholm, Sweden is now online for play in Dota 2 Test. You can try it out by selecting "Stockholm" as the server region when creating a practice lobby. You can select to be queued for matchmaking for these servers by selecting the "Russia" matchmaking group before you begin finding a match.
This server region was allocated for our customers specifically in Russia and Northern Europe. Please let us know what quality of connection you are getting to these servers and any issues that you encounter while playing there.
Russians have been a hot topic for discussion ever since launch. I'm really curious to see whether or not this will help solve any problems at all. I can't imagine servers in Stockholm being any better for Russians than the German servers. What makes even less sense is the pairing of Russia+Scandinavia. The part of Europe with the highest % of English speakers (along with Netherlands IIRC) paired with Russia.. I just don't get it. Scandinavians understand each other, so are we supposed to just speak our own languages on the server?
I cannot fathom how, provided this server is used as inteded, nordics are supposed to manage playing there. Scandinavia's combined population is less than 1/4 of Germany. Not having any statistics to back it up I'd guess each game would average at 8-9 Russians.Last edit: 2012-07-06 08:59:43 |

| why would they put russian server in stocholm? guaranteed noone from the nordic countries will play there if it's going to be full of russians. |

I think/hope it just a start..
Quite possible that they are waiting on something to set up proper servers in Moscow or somewhere else in Russia, but the server in Stockholm got ready now and they decided to put Russians there temporarily.
When you queue you can choose Russia or Europe, won't make a difference for us Scandinavians, as long as we queue on Europe..
Hopefully just a temp thing to decrease the whine bout Russians before they get their own server! |

This won't work, they tried this with Brazil servers in HoN. Turns out, Brazilians don't play on US because of ping, they play because even Brazilians don't want to play with other Brazilians. I expect the Russia servers to be the same. |

What region do you usually queue? Because i know, out of all the games i played on EU there wasn't been a single game that was rus-free. |

I've seen that happen. It was 3BR2RUS vs 3RUS2BR. You know what happened? One of the most fun and balanced and good mannered game of my life.
I'm aware that BR and RUS have a history of being assholes and all, but that's true for basically anyone. The only problem people find is that BR and RUS have high ping on common servers(I average 150-200 on US servers, where it's 15-50 on South America), and they usually don't talk in English or have very poor English, which leads to bigger rage, when in fact everyone is an asshole, not just a group of people.
Either way, it's awesome that they are adding a server for east europe like they did to south america. Playing at low ping changes your game completely, and suddenly you find out that you are actually really good at this game @_@ |

As long as you are not forced to play on your own server or they make it default for certain IPs this won't change much. Just for queue times alone they will still play on EU.
The one thing that would fix the situation or at least make it a lot better is simply making talking in anything but english a strictly punished offense. |
