Bugs from the original PC release will be addressed in this new release. Though initially going to the Square Enix store, this will come to Steam at one point, I assume it will use steamworks and the new achievements will be available to Steam users also.

Arguably. There are more than a few people (including myself) that think other games (6, 4, 9) are much better. It's definitely a good game, just overrated by the people who started at the PSX age.

I would say 9 is more entertaining story wise. But the combat is garbage. Overall I think 7 is the best if you include everything (how the items work, materia, combat, story, characters so on.).

Well said, it's the most balanced of the FF series between all the important elements of a good RPG.

Man...ever since they released that PS3 tech demo of the beginning of FF7, I've been hoping for that to really happen. This is still great, though. The old PC port was awful.

This was my 1st FF game I played and it will always remain my favorite Its silly to say which is the best of them because everyone is different and will love different games. 8 is my second favorite and that one gets a lot of hate. I played FF7 for the 1st time on the old PC release and I didn't have much trouble with it (also played it on the PS once I got one years later lol). <3 7-9! 10 was ok and the old school ones were high quality as well (played them after playing 7, 8, and 9). I think my attachment to them is simply because I played them first (had a sega instead of nintendo).
Regardless its cool that they are releasing it again!

+1 I think that 4 sucks though, and that was the first that I played.

I did my only playthrough of the game on the pc Eidos Platinum edition. I liked it, there weren't any gamebreaking bugs.

Without doubt the greatest RPG of all time from where I sit. If you haven't played this (wtf?), then buy it and give it a real go, i.e. expect nothing and play the game for a reasonable stretch. I highly doubt you'll be disappointed with the purchase, even if you don't think it's the greatest of all time.
I still have my PSX copy and saves on my memory card with every character at lvl 99, gold chocobo, dead weapons etc.
The only thing I balked at was the option that allows you to max HP/MP and so forth from the options menu... Implying that this game was, perhaps, too hard in the first place? WTF? I beat this game at like 14 or 15 years of age without any problems at all. Weird inclusion.
