Please first note the question mark.
This is an idea thread first and foremost.
I have been brainstorming with my friend on my idea for a SC2 radio channel.
I have looked it up on TL and it seems like this has been attempted two or three times in the past and have since died out or the ball has stopped rolling.
What do I want this channel to be?
I want this channel to be a 24/7 streaming channel of Starcraft content. This isn't me sitting at a computer with a friend for 24 hours and talking about Starcraft topics. I want to bring MP3's of top e-sports talk shows, audio of tournaments past, and just giving people something to listen to and just chill while they are working or doing other thing on the PC.
What I envision for the future of this channel?
I would like this channel to become a secondary crossroads of content. With rebroadcasts of tournaments and talk shows being on the list there are other things I would also like to do. Such as: Pre and post tournament interviews with professional Starcraft players, Possible live tournament coverage from the events themselves, and Constant updates on what is going on in the community. This is something that you can turn on at work and hear about Rebull sponsoring Startale, or listening to the thread This Week in Starcraft 2. I would like to bring this content to the community but this is simply an envisionment of something that would happen way down the road.
What do I need from you guys, the community?
I need first off the support of viewership. If I pour a lot of time into this project and there is interest but no support, it's gonna crash quickly. Not only do I need the support from the community but I would also like some ideas from the community as well. So here are a few questions for you guys out there...
What content should I strive to provide? Should there be any video besides some text on screen? What do you guys think of a Ticker on stream? Any tournaments you would like covered in the near future?
...And any other ideas/comments you would like to make would be HUGELY appreciated.
I would like to start this channel as early as next Wednesday. I need to talk to the hosts of the talk shows to see if they are okay with me using their content. And if anyone knows how to get in touch with any big names in e-sports (besides twitter as they haven't yet answered me there) let me know in a PM.
I really need the support of the community here so if you read this please comment and then tell your friends about it. Go in a stream chat and spread the news. Let your grandmother know. Tell everyone you know in the scene. I would greatly appreciate it.
Sincerely yours, Amateur
Major Edit: This project has, for the most part, been scrapped by me due to another project already in the works on this very idea. It has not been made massively public but there are hints about this being created. They are putting much more work and detail behind the project than I could have ever dreamed. Thank you for reading this thread and hopefully we will see a SC2 radio station come to fruition within the coming months.Last edit: 2012-07-08 17:47:49 |

This would be great, however you'd need to network with a LOT of people in order for this happen.
In terms of content I think a little bit of original content along with mostly re-streams/rebroadcasts. Me personally while laddering, I like to listen to shows and even sometimes go back to the old SotGs for entertainment instead of listening to music. Or I listen to other shows like LO3 and stuff |

This is something I am really not afraid of pushing myself to do if it benefits the community.
I had thought to do those same things on the channel because I also listen to SotG and ItG whenever i just want to listen to something. So that content would require the consent of the hosts which is why I need to get ahold of them. |

What content should I strive to provide? Restreams/rebroadcasts of tournaments and shows is great. As well as some original content, like a twice daily news segment. Should there be any video besides some text on screen? If you're gonna do radio then do radio. No text, no video, just straight audio. What do you guys think of a Ticker on stream? I am unsure what a ticker is, but as long as it doesn't interfere with the content then go ahead. Any tournaments you would like covered in the near future? Anything really.\
I think this is a great idea. I love audio only Starcraft so much I listen to commentaries in my car. Do it.

It would be awesome for the few people who need a radio channel, but IDK how many SC2 fans are in situations where a radio channel for SC2 would be desired. I think it's a excellent idea, but personally, I would never have use for it.Last edit: 2012-07-07 11:56:44 |

| Love the idea but not sure how successful you'll be. Most big esports shows would benefit more, I think, from having people watch VODs on their channel instead of listening to a restream. That said, I do like the idea of constant rotating content. I don't know if I'm able to yet, but if I can, I'd love to contribute my show to the project. |

| I would support this, even if I'm not watching a stream I always just have it on in the back for background noise. I've always imagined having something like this. |

| If you re-casted some games in a more play-by-play manner then I would be a regular listener. |

I like the idea of play-by-play casting. I should be able to make that happen.
I also usually have a stream up in the bg as well which sparked this idea.
Arnfasta let me know after the project gets rolling and see the popularity and if you are interested I am sure we could work on something.
Something I am at a loss for is people are asking for radio and I do not know where to do an actual radio station. At the moment, I am simply working on a Twitch.tv channel that streams basic info in the video and audio. The basic info being twitter info, e-mail, and the current content.
If anyone knows where I could expand to an audio only streaming site, I could look into doing an actual radio station instead of twitch.tv. (Although, I feel if I do audio only on twitch.tv the exposure would be greater as twitch.tv does a great job promoting)
Keep the comments coming I would like as much feedback as possible. |

to be honest it would be weird listening to rebroadcasts of tournies.... i dont think i would like that because it would distract me too much while playing or doing something. but a nice chill interview or talk show are great to listen to. or even those shows from EG.
so to summarize here are things that are great (for me) HotBid's interviews ALL of EG's content DefinitiveeSports STOG LO3 CSN stuff
cant think of anything else right now... i will update if there is anything i can think of! :D |

Maybe I'm the only person, but I personally love listening to casts while I'm laddering. I don't need to see the games, just hear what's being said. A lot of times something comes up that is really interesting and something I should be trying to either incorporate into my play, or think about in general. I'd love to hear rebroadcasted casts of say HSC (with the pros casting, which I think is huge). I'd probably listen often.
I think that you could probably get a lot of support from the established podcasts if you did it right. For instance, I don't think it would be a huge deal if you rebroadcasted SotG, as long as you acknowledged where the podcast came from, and during the breaks that they have embedded into their casts you do voiceovers advertising where the podcast was created, who was involved, their sponsors, and the podcast's normal website. As long as you're sure not to run any ads to earn you revenue while their content is running, I don't see why they would have a problem with it as long as it didn't drastically lower their viewerships. |

Well said Noobity. I too thought I was the only one who listened to streams while playing but apparantly there are a few people out there.
As for using SotG, I had already thought of using that but the way you suggest seems very good as well. Not running Twitch.tv adds of course is unfortunate but if I don't make revenue off it I guess that is legit.
As for HolyExlxF, I looked up ICEcast and am still researching it but if you know how to use the software effectively or have any experience with the software, could you explain it in detail? either here or a PM however you prefer |

What content should I strive to provide? State of the game, Inside the game, good interviews, EG shows (Unburrowed, mail call, etc.), some tournaments like MLG, HomeStory Cup, DreamHack, IEM, NASL (GSL if you are allowed cause you need a pass...). Also videos receiving a lot of attention (such as Liquid Rising), Real Talk, the small NASL shows (like Eyes on the Community).
I would highly suggest putting out the results for small tournaments like Playhem Dailys and Team Leagues like GSTL and IPL TAC. Also, I would recommend that you have GSL results there too.
At some point in the day you should say ALL of the major results of any tournaments.
Should there be any video besides some text on screen?
No, go sound only. There may be some things worth considering, but I would highly suggest that you go sound only. What would make it different if there was video on the screen?
What do you guys think of a Ticker on stream?
That's a watch, correct? why would you need that? I'm so confused...
Any tournaments you would like covered in the near future?
Said in the first question
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Add a poll to see who supports it and who does not, and who wants a ticker and who does not.Last edit: 2012-07-07 13:47:18 |

OMG YES. Like an AM station that reads off results, always mentioning spectacles and upsets alongside. I can never keep up with all of the smaller tourneys and this would be wonderful. |

| @LanTAs If I were to rebroadcast anyone of the many talk shows that are out there in the community that would fill one hour minimum not counting pausing for identification of the show and such. Along with some of the ideas that are flowing in this thread I believe that, while I will still strive for a 24 / 7 broadcast, a 12 hour per day broadcast I think may be possible with daily tournament coverage and going through results and such from major tournaments the night before. And if 12 hours can be filled you can simply reloop the broadcast for any European listeners. |
