I wanted to only use the three-day free HD to watch Naniwa's games on July 4th, but it seems like that free trial automatically charged me instead of asking me whether or not I wanted to continue...how do I cancel it? I've checked the GOMTV website, but there doesn't seem to be an option there, can it only be done through a paypal purchase dispute?
[Edit]: to clarify, I activated it on the 4th, and today is still the 7th, so I also thought I still had time to cancel the subscription because it's still within the three day span of the trial
[Edit2]: Here's the main issue now, guys - let me make it clear that I know that subscriptions like this all work like that - the main difference is that you'd simply cancel the subscription from the website that you signed up for it. Amazon prime worked like that, Netflix worked like that. Why does GOM not have the option to cancel its own subscription on its website?Last edit: 2012-07-09 10:50:01 |

| Gomtv follows KST, so if you activated the trial at some sort of weird time like 8am kst, you probably wouldn't know that you would get charged. |

It says on the website before you accept the trial that the subscription won't cancel on its own. That's exactly why i refused to try it.
Edit :
* Please make sure to read the terms and conditions before registering for the free trial
Register for the monthly subscription ticket free trial event to receive complete access to GOMTV.net premium services for 3 days. On the day after the free trial period, the regular ticket price will be charged. The subscription remains active and you will automatically be charged every month until cancelled.
Sometimes, it's useful to read all the lines before accepting everything ..
Edit 2 : Actually the rest of the quote gives your answer
If you do not want to be charged, you have to manually cancel the subscription on PayPal prior to midnight PDT on the last day of the free trial period. Please take note that you will not receive a notice from GOMTV.net that your free trial period has ended or that your paying subscription has begun.
Before cancelling, please take note that after cancelling a monthly subscription (including the free trial), you will not be able to purchase another monthly subscription ticket for 30 days. This penalty had to be introduced to prevent against fraudulent abuse of the monthly ticket subscription system.
So really, learn to read

| I saw the terms as well and is why I cancelled. I'm a GSL Lite yearly subscriber and wanted to try their GSTL subscription, but I saw that I'd get charged right after the 3 day trial. You really have to be careful before you agree to things. I guess this is a lesson learned. |

| I too was pretty interested in giving the trial a shot, but then I saw that it would not automatically cancelled, and that was ridiculous in my opinion. So I didn't do it. As to how you actually cancel it, I believe it does have to be done through the paypal account. |

What if you payed for it with a credit card, and you don't have a paypal account? How would you cancel it then?
Edit: I guess you probably have to have a paypal account to activate it in the first place? I don't really know. Just throwin it out there.Last edit: 2012-07-08 08:11:01 |

It was ridiculous a business follows the same standard practices of pretty much every subscription based business that offers free trials? I'd say that's exactly the opposite of ridiculous and very reasonable, they made it very clear how to cancel it/you would not be auto un-subbed. |

yes you have to enter to your paypal account, and look for the suscription bill, just cancel it... i don't remember how to go to that section, but when i logged in, right in the bottom was the option for canceling the Gomtv suscription |

It may be very common, but it's still a deceptive marketing practice. It's designed to make money off of people who did not intend to pay. An automatic black mark against the company in my books. Although Gom's positives (good content, very responsive to viewers) outweigh the negatives (password fiasco, ripped off VLC) in my opinion.
Edit: yeah, deceptive is the wrong word. Change deceptive to predatory, or something.

| How is it deceptive when you have to input your credit card/PayPal info up front? If it was 3 days free without automatically getting recharged then they wouldn't have asked you for this info. |
