Hi guys! I recently reformatted my pc to 64bit windows 7 from 32 bit windows 7. (pc was bottlenecking on 32bit)

So, I go to play some dota 2 and my graphics card a nvidia 550ti starts to sound like a jet engine. I check speed fan and its overheating at 70C and normally idles at 30 degrees. I never had this problem before so I feel it could be my drivers as I never really updated drivers on my last format. Any Tips or advice to fix this?

EDIT: it runs cool while in SC2 maxed out.

Run 3dMark and see if you have the same overheating, you can also download processexplorer from microsoft and check to see if dota is capping out your GPU. I don't think dota would need to cap a 550ti but you need to determine if its a software bug causing the gpu problems or if its just maxing out the graphics card.

Also this 100% belongs in tech support, @mods please move it.

In console cap the FPS, I usually set "fps max 40" and my computer stops crashing while playing dota2.

When SC2 came for BW, I cried. Now LoL/Dota2 comes for SC2, and I laugh. \o/

i do have a same problem. im currently running on a laptop and the heat has gone increasingly higher for the past 2-3 weeks when i run dota2. probably has a lot to do with the implement of the preview system with all the 3D models. the game load much slower too.

Best advice: check on dev forum, not here

Yeah, I noticed this problem, my laptop overheats when running Dota 2. I found that if I limited CPU speed to 80% the game still ran mostly fine and my computer wouldn't explode. In the end though I caved and bought a laptop stand with a fan built in.

yeah its been weird for me because it never did this for me. I used processexplorer and saw dota was maxing out my gpu which has never happened to me before.

Did you try capping the max fps? My game runs at 120 just fine, but I guess it might go well over 300 if I tried, which would definitely result in overheating.
