| Thanks everyone for the responses guys, I'm slowly going through the thread and see how I can collate the info and suggestions together. However, I'm looking more towards keeping the current BW (no flash BW or something please lol) progaming scene alive and continue forever. Short term and long term proposals/suggestions, integrating BW with modern technology/scope/audience etc. The ESPORTSTV can be taken as one example. But still, keep any and all suggestions and info coming! |

man.. i feel exactly the same way as you kona, except for the DOTA2 playing part. i've just been not watching any PL at all after the first few weeks of split PL...just been playing random games and watching the occasional OSL game.
i just felt like giving up on BW entirely after all the news of last OSL and split PL etc.
but after last night's match, my love for BW was instantly reignited T_T
also, watching the jangbi last push crowd reaction.. manly tears were shed.
really wish i could do something. |

*cue Zack Hemsey - Mind Heist*
THERE WILL BE A DAY WHEN THE SOCIAL GAMERS TAKE OVER WHEN APM AND SKILL MEANS NOTHING
THERE WILL BE A DAY WHEN EMPIRES OF ESPORTS COLLAPSES AND BE REDUCED TO NOTHING BUT MYTH
THERE WILL BE A DAY WHEN BROODWAR IS ONLY MENTIONED IN PASSING AS THE GAME THAT MADE PEOPLE GIVE A SHIT ABOUT SC2 IN THE FIRST PLACE
but today
IS NOT THAT DAY
TODAY WE STAND
AND FIGHT
FOR THE SURVIVAL OF BROOD WAR COME WITH ME SONS AND BROTHERS AND KIN FOR ONE LAST OFFENSIVE
Seriously, the Brood War demographic is older than the Sc2 crowd. We have jobs and money and are willing to pay more. I think that should be the main argument. There is a big chunk of aggregate demand here. How exactly we are going to come up with that sort of proof is rather difficult.
However I will simply not roll over and die. I will not be lead off in cuffs silently with a black bag over my head. I will be dragged, kicking and screaming with my fingernails torn off bleeding.
If anything we should send in a huge montage grid of people holding up signs that read "BROOD WAR FOREVER" showing the faces of all the fans that want this. I want this, and many of my friends want this, I refuse to let this be the end. I do not accept this. |

I think we can learn something from b.net 0.2 in starcraft 2 which is finding matches with a single click of a button . Currently newbies may not be custom to hosting your games and spamming b.net channels to find a game and all they want to do is just to click a button and *ding* the server automatically matches your ranking with the same rank player and you are good to go . Some how I think if we are able to implement such a system in to iccup or a new upcoming server which have this features it will probably bring back interest to the game and stop's the huge excuses that people can't find matches on the net .

The sad thing is a server like this with AMM was made abd looked like the best thing ever. Unfortunately sc2 beta came out like a week later and it got lost in the hype.Last edit: 2012-07-11 21:48:47 |

Do you reckon we could ever find the technology/programming behind it? If -eywa reckons he wants a new server then we might as well put it in. |

quite confused how your example of sc2 pros dropping out, fans enthusiasm, money, and broodwar have with connections to one another.
you can't buy skill with money?
nor can you buy skill with enthusiasm, still don't see where you're going with this or the connections

He ment, more and more active foreigner BW "pro" player quits as time goes on, or play lot less
there weren't many active foreigner broodwar pros when sc2 came out in the first placeLast edit: 2012-07-11 22:55:44 |

Rather than handing money over to tournament organizers to increase prize pools, how about making a documentary about broodwar, and the love that people have for the game? I know some documentaries currently exist (Nat geo's xellos' WCG run), but they probably need to focus less on a handful of prominent players, and more on BW's current struggle and its recent history.
Imagine the exposure a documentary can achieve in a short amount of time. (For a lack of a better reference, the Kony documentary, but with significantly less emotional hogwash)
I'm not sure of how this would directly have an impact on the korean proscene though.
Edit: BW's source code, increasing accessibility and matchmaking are all good ideas guys, keep them coming. Last edit: 2012-07-11 22:52:11 |

Tell that to manchester city and real madrid. |

Also, just to say, no BW push will ever be our last. (i believe) Those audience vids are fantastic, a passion that few sports, and yet fewer esports, can boast with.
They will NEVER do that. BW is a competition for SC2 and they tried so hard to kill off BW so that they can milk the money of their new child. Imagine if they release the BW source code and someone does something similar like with Dota and Dota 2. If we get BW 2 improved on every level than what will happen with SC2 ?
Well, the trick is persuading blizzard that they can still milk BW. People in Asia seem to prefer free to play games, so Asian developers base their money making schemes around that. I'm sure blizzard could find a way to make money off Brood War Live in China and Korea (non-intrusive ads, some paid unlocks for casuals, UMS improvements, etc.). After all that's the only thing they're good at these days.
Since SC2 did not take off in Korea and China, BW Live could be a good way to monetize that niche for blizzard (especially China). That way BW wouldn't be seen as SC2's competition that much, filling a niche SC2 couldn't. Not to mention the fact that it probably wouldn't take more resources than e.g. blizzard DotA. |

I started following BW 2009 and would like to make a summary, be it articles / videos, of the scene ranging from 2007/8 - 2012. If we put our smart heads together, this can be done. Maybe a year at a time and slowly we can work our way back in time and perserve some more.
There is a lot of people willing to help - though time isn't avaliable to everyone. If you have a full-time job you will support BW by donating. If you're a student / unemployed / minor you can work with organizing, writing articles, setting up tournaments. We need an umbrella organisation that can connect everything together. The power of this organisation will be the power of BW |

While we're at it, how about we continue the Pimpest Plays? There have been so many awesome plays since PP was last released. |

Im proposing a massive PR machinery to take place before the OSL finals, so that people outside of the community can tune in and watch. Is Sayle/Hackle/elegant/L_master or someone casting those games? Spam the forums (in a classy way ofc) with links to streams. It will literally be the last opportunity to show the world just the full impact of an OSL BW final.
I plan to cast definitely the next Ro4 games, and possibly the finals as well. |

| Honestly though I think the biggest, and probably hardest, issue would be convincing KeSPA that BW is still sustainable as a business monetarily, and then equally as importantly that sponsorship and investment could become a reality again. |
