I just tried to get on Starcraft 2 and as I got to the login screen it went black for a second and then automatically closed down. It's happening every time and I can't get past it, even on my KR client.
I understand there was a patch today? It's not letting me get to it, even when I go into the folders and checked the patch downloader/updater it say there's nothing knew. I tried repairing and it said it couldn't connect to the Blizzard servers.

| I had a similar problem after the patch. It would simple darken and close SC2. Although in my case, I was able to download the patch (After closing SC2, the patcher would auto-open). I ended up downloading patch 3-4 times (each time resulted in same problem of SC2 closing). It eventually worked when I closed any programs that may have been interfering with the patching process. Sorry it an't a straight up solution, but hope it helps. |

Hmm, well thanks for the reply, it's definitely the same issue except for me when sc2 closes the patcher isn't opening. I've tried closing any program that could possibly interfere, and I've tried all the other stuff. Even the repair tool, so far no results. I guess I'll just wait till tomorrow and if it's not fixed and there isn't a blue post about it I'll try re-installing.
I also checked the battle.net forums and have only found one post from someone with the same issue, it had no replies and the OP hasn't followed up on if he was able to fix it. |

Figured I'd update incase anyone else has had this problem and managed to fix it.
I still currently can not play, same problem as in OP. I manually downloaded the 1.4.4 patch and it won't install, the error that comes with it says: "This update requires the "North American English" version of this software. Currently the "<Pretty_>" version is installed." The only difference I can see from yesterday is that when I launch the client and just before it crashes you get a glimpse of the current patch (see screenshot), it was 1.4.3 yesterday, and today it says 1.4.2.
Still no blue posts on the issue, I found a thread from awhile ago on battle.net were the OP was having the same error trying to patch, the only suggestion in the thread was to disable firewall/anti-virus and try, which didn't help. |

| Reinstall starcraft 2 and run as administrator with firewall and av off. If this doesn't work then you're just really unlucky. |

| I have this exact same problem, tried running repair tool, didn't work, running the updater gets me a message saying there is nothing to update. Manual patching leads the <pretty > version problem. Hope we find a solution soon! |

I uninstalled completely and am about a third of the way into re-installing. I'm not sure it'll fix the issue but I'll let you know when I'm done. It would be so goddamn frustrating if I re-installed and it doesn't fix it.
I'm extremely mad at Blizzard, obviously this isn't the first time I've been fucked over by their shitty preparation, patching and customer support but this is beyond ridiculous, I don't have the discs and I live in Australia with average speed internet, it's going to take 7 or 8~ hours today just to re-install. It wouldn't be so bad for myself, I can go read a book or something but it also means that for the majority of today the internet is going to be unusable for my brother and mum.
I'm also going to miss GSL because it'll be too laggy to watch.. Last edit: 2012-07-12 17:01:39 |

Did the exact thing and it worked for me, running repair tool might help as well. |

Although this is not the same problem you might be able to help me. When I try to run SC2 after the most recent patch(2days ago) luncher starts and wants to download the patch. What happens is the top left goes ''downloading'' but top right(where the progress should be seen in %) is blank and nothing appears there. After a while it goes ''finished'' and ''play'' becomes click-able. After I press play the game doesnt start and goes ''New patch is availible would you like to download it?'' I click OK and its starts over again same scenario. What i've done so far is complete reinstall of client.
EDIT: If anyone is experiencing similar problem I believe i have the solution. It seems the updater itself wasnt updated after i donwloaded this patch (http://games.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=72770&t=0&i=2). It basically updated the updater wich allowed me to patch futher. Hope it works for you aswell Last edit: 2012-07-12 22:12:52 |

Alrighty, so after a long and laggy day of download SC2, it finished downloading, installed and patched perfectly and let me play. It sucks that this could be the only solution to the exact problem in the OP but I guess that's Blizzard for ya, hope everyone else with the same problem gets it resolved.
Defininitely going to say this fresh client onto an external hard drive in case it fucks up again. |
