Introduction
The most prestigious tournament in E-Sports turns in 2012 to Blizzard's latest real-time strategy offering, Starcraft II, sequel to the greatest game ever made: Starcraft: Brood War. The younger game has produced stars and captured audiences by thousands world wide, and OGN now introduces their premier casters and production values to bring us a tournament series which should be nothing short of spectacular.

Best of 3 single-elimination preliminary brackets place

(with tie-breakers if necessary),

best of five,
winner-take-all showdown,
which ends with the crowning of the
NEW CHAMPION
(The four semi-finalists are then seeded Into the next tournament's round of sixteen,
while the remaining twelve participants from the round of sixteen return to the next Dual Tournament, and the process begins again.)
Amendments to Format
The OSL format has changed periodically to accommodate unique circumstances: e.g. after the match-fixing scandal, in the wake of retirements, etc. As well, for several years the OSL instead used a format which paired up 24 qualifiers mano-a-mano for the right to play the 12 seeds.
In this case, due to the transition, the seeds were heavily restricted: Only the finalists from the tving OSL are seeded Into the Round of Sixteen, and only the 3rd and 4th place finishers were seeded to the Dual Tournament. The KeSPA players therefore have a total of eight of the season's Round of Sixteen players. GOM players were given the remaining eight spots through four Dual Tournament groups of their own with four seeds into those groups going to top GSL players so they would not have to play preliminaries.
I suspect the process will return to normal next season with GOM and KeSPA players combined since both will be playing exclusively Starcraft II; however if a settlement is not reached between the two arbitrating bodies the split preliminaries and even Dual Tournament could continue for some time.

The Process: The four seeds take turns drafting players into their groups. The previous OSL champion picks first, then the other finalist, then the 3rd (lost to champion) and 4th (lost to runner-up). Then the first round of draftees picks the second round, and the second chooses the third. (However, this time there are only two seeds, so the group selection started with Jangbi and fantasy each choosing a player as "seed" for the other groups.)

I've run it through TLPD with SC2 as the default index; most of the KeSPA players still default to their BW profiles even so. Sometime when I have an extra couple hours I'll go through and fix them all manually and add VOD links.

As far as I can make out, for this season four GSL players were given seeds into the ODT so they avoided preliminaries. I don't follow the GSL at all closely so I'm not sure how or when the four were determined. None of the GOM players got seeds to the actual OSL, as far as I can tell.

EDIT 8/8/12: Manually updated all players to SC2 (Korean) profiles except BisAnG who doesn't have an SC2 profile at all yet, but he lost so that's okay.
