I recently wrote an article on how to stop tilting while playing poker/video games. I believe the methods of preventing rage in poker are interchangeable to gaming in general. I used to be a sc2 semi-pro gamer and now I play poker full time, I use alot of skills learned from my starcraft career in poker,
Playing ladder is very similar to grinding poker games, transitioning from starcraft to poker was fairly easy for me as many of the skills I learned came from my days of grinding ladder, time efficiency, maintaining your cool and replay analysis are all big factors in being good at both Poker and Starcraft. I excel at both games so i think this might be some helpful insight to you guys on how pro's deal with rage/tilt when things aren't going your way.
No matter how good you are, you will always have opportunity to find things to improve with your mindset. Some key pillars of mantaining good practice sessions are:
1) Know When to Stop after Bad Beats 2) Exercise your Body 3) Eat Better 4) Take Frequent Breaks 5) Have a Pet

5 tips to stop rage.
Tip 1) Be good enough to not lose Tip 2) Play a good game where skill will allow you to win Tip 3) Repeat 1 and 2 as needed Tip 4) Significant other Tip 5) Rock the boat
I do like your tips, however, #3.. while it's very true... whether you're eating your 5th chocolate bar or some complex carbs, you'll still rage/tilt regardless. But I believe you're saying that you'll perform closer to your peak and therefore not lose as much and not rage, which is accurate and I think not enough people look at that side of things.
Overall really liked your article |

Your message is good, but you desperately need an editor.
This is your first "sentence": Throughout my experience as a professional gamer and poker player I have spent a lot of time developing ways of coping with tilt and frustration when you are losing, you carry on despite your skill going down the drain the more and more you get frustrated, it can be a vicious cycle while playing a hard game, especially when money is on the line like Poker; here are my Top 5 Tips on How to Stop Poker Tilt.
This is closer to what it should be (better phrasing may be possible): Throughout my experience as a professional gamer and poker player, I have spent a lot of time developing ways of coping with the frustration that comes from losing, which, if not dealt with properly, can put one on tilt. When on tilt, a player continues to play despite mounting frustration from losing. This frustration causes the player to lose focus and lose the game, which adds to his frustration, which makes it harder to focus, etc. It's a vicious cycle that can form in harder games, especially in games like Poker, where money is on the line. Here are my Top 5 Tips on How to Stop Poker Tilt.
That's just a start, but even nailing down some simple things (like having one idea per sentence and eliminating run-ons) would help. |

Good advice with the exception of the referral to Durianrider the borderline psychotic, vitriolic vegan that willfully ignores actual nutrition research to propogate the unfounded notion that human beings ought to be eating 80% of their calories from carbohydrates (all while avoiding the evil that is animal products, of course) for optimal health. That Durianrider himself is prone to make hateful, rage-induced youtube videos attacking various people who disagree with his ideology (often for very defensible reasons) might make one wonder that his diet is at all helpful in dealing with anger/tilt problems.
A short list of accessible material that challenges such notions, indirectly or directly:
Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes
The Vegetarian Myth by Lierre Keith (a nice review here)
http://www.westonaprice.org/vegetarianism-and-plant-foods/vegetarianism-and-nutrient-deficiencies
A nice resource for vegans/vegetarians that want to be as healthy as possible while retaining their eschewal of animal products:
http://rawfoodsos.com/for-vegans/
Not trying to start a dietary flame war, but I felt compelled to offer alternative nutritional advice, if only because I think the sort proffered by Durianriders and his ilk is so much unsubstantiated garbage, motivated more by misguided moralism than rational inquiry or any holistic comprehension of human biochemistry and evolution.Last edit: 2012-07-24 11:12:27 |

| I like the intent here, but your post shows minimal effort, essentially saying "these are 5 tips to not tilt! CLICK HERE <offsite link>". The actual article is short enough to include in your post. We frown on veiled advertisements here. Add a summary or the entire article to your post or I'm closing this thread. |
