Regarding the wire of a razer mouse

Hey guys I just got a used Razer Copperhead mouse, but the wire is damaged (I got this for free XD), or atleast the cover is cut, and I cant tell if the wire is damaged. Does anyone know if the wires of razer mice are special or just the chips inside? If the wire is just a regular mouse wire found in any optical mouse, then I can just swap it with my Logitech Optical Mouse (its your joe shmoe logitech mouse). If not then, does atleast swapping the mices covers help give it a smoother feel? I dont want to swap individual parts like the laser or some chips cuz the circuit boards are designed with only those chips in mind (I dont my mouse exploding on me). Can anyone help? Btw I cant put up pics cuz I cant get a nice picture.. its just a blur :/

Does the mouse function fine? I would just use electrical tape or something else to wrap it.

Yeah the mouse works fine. Its just that as I get better at the game, the wire will need to take more electrical load, so Im afraid that it wont be able handle it cuz theres like some nano-sized cut somewhere I cant see.

Don't worry about this, pretty sure the statement you just made about electrical load is completely wrong

Pretty much what he said. You moving the mouse faster or clicking more doesn't increase electrical load. It's always sending out the same amount of electricity. As long as you can't see the individual "fibers" of a wire you're alright. Even a cut in it is ok long as they are still connecting. Kinda how soldered wires for audio work in the first place.

If it's sending a signal, and not cutting sporadically, it's fine. All mice that use the same USB 2.0 interface have the same pin layout. Some mice might make use of more wires inside than other, but the cable is universal. What you might not be able to replace without some soldering skills though is the connector inside, because some cables solder directly onto the board inside, others have a plug or other interface.

Also the signal is digital, which means it pulses on and off. In almost all cases, it either works, or it doesn't.

Inside the thicker outer wire are four smaller wires. As long as none of those are damaged you're good. And what Amui said is correct, 99% of the time, it'll either work or not work and if it cuts between those two stages, it's generally a problem at the ends, not in the middle.

If it's the internal wires you're talking about, all wire is essentially the same. It conducts electricity. You can use a paperclip to do the same job of any wire inside the mouse if you can get it hooked up.

Generally speaking though, there's no such thing as a generic mouse wire. You can take any USB device cable and if you solder it correctly it'll work with your mouse.
