[H] Getting a new laptop (idk what im doing)

Hello.

I am truly sorry for creating yet another "check-the-laptop-I-wanna-get" thread but I am really lost in the massive laptop jungle. Reason is simply that I have always been using a desktop PC and have a general mistrust towards performance in laptops.

Here is what I am looking for:
I always play SC2 on low settings because I like the looks better, so it has to be able to really smoothly run sc2 low settings in major lategame 1v1 and prefferably 2v2 battles. I think this is the most I need performance wise. From what I understand reading through the countless threads on this topic this should require more performance wise than D3.

Other than watching and playing sc2 I will mostly be doing school stuff on it. Nothing in terms of 3D animation, just writing papers and stuff.

Again, I did read a lot of the older topics on the subject and realised that I need a separate graphics card, a decent CPU and some RAM.

The problem is that I am a complete retard when it comes to specs and just get confused from all the numbers. My budget is also quite limited and since I live in Sweden I cant buy from Newegg :/.

Here is an Asus comp that is in the top range of my budget and I would love to hear some opinions on it:

ASUS K55VM 15.6" HD
CPU: Intel Core i5 3210M / 2.5 GHz
RAM: DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz
Hard drive: 500 GB HDD / 5400 rpm
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M - 2 GB DDR3 SDRAM (Apparently this isnt very good?)

Price: 944 USD (767 €)

http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=752527#extra

If you guys can please help me out and let me know if this set up is any good and/or recommend other comps I would be very thankful

Cheers!

The 630M isn't particularly high end but for SC2 on low I believe it should be enough.

As for another possible laptop: I'm going to quote my post from another thread:

Thanks to Womwomwom and the others who have responded to my post! I am posting again just as a heads up for anyone else interested in laptops. The Lenovo Barnes and Noble deal is still going until August 1, which is two days from now. Thanks to you guys, I was able to act on this deal and buy a new Thinkpad T530 with the following specs:

Intel Core i5-3210M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz)
Genuine Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)
15.6" HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Backlit AntiGlare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
NVIDIA NVS 5400M Graphics with Optimus Technology, 1GB DDR3 Memory
4 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (1 DIMM)
Keyboard Backlit - US English
UltraNav without Fingerprint Reader
720p HD Camera with Microphone
500GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
DVD Recordable
Express Card Slot & 4-in-1 Card Reader & Bezel
9 Cell Li-Ion TWL 70++
90W AC Adapter - US (2pin)
ThinkPad 1x1 b/g/n
Mobile Broadband upgradable

for only $824.25 before tax, an impressive deal even just by looking at the specs, and even more impressive considering the usual cost of Thinkpads. If anyone else wants to act on this deal, simply create an account at this link:

http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/barnesnoblegold/StdAffinityPortal/en_US/account.workflow:StartCreateAccountByProxy?affinity=barnesnoblegold

Basically this is a very good deal on a Thinkpad laptop, should be fast enough for SC2 and also apart from that has the Thinkpad build quality, long battery life and a good screen. I'm quoting this because this is the laptop I ordered 2 days ago and the coupon deal is actually still valid right now but won't be for long.

He's in Europe. Those American-only deals are really nice though.

The 630M is definitely enough for SC2 on low, if you're still wondering.

Great thanks for that answer I was really unsure about it seeing as that "m" at the end seems to ruin a lot of graphic cards.

I tried looking for more options (as I don’t have much info about that particular model, the hardware seems fine, though) in the shop but they don’t have the models I’d suggest or the price is higher than I’m used to. Here is one better for gaming but a bit more expensive:
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=752556

Here is probably the cheapest that should still run games like SC2 but is more suitable for carrying it around:
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=657874#extra

And here is one really small, relatively sturdy, decent for games but at the cost of the missing DVD drive.
