Lux is low/mid-tier as a mid champion. Her problem is that she is required to land a Q in order to chain a combo (i.e. burst), but landing a Q can be difficult - especially against certain opponent. Consequently she has many "hard" counters, one of them in particular is Ahri.
Setting her counters aside, she is a reasonably good pick. Her wave clear is decent, her range is good, her shield is pretty OP, and she roams really well with her laser.

Sort of this. Moreover, she just hits a wall faster than most AP carries do. It's no secret that AP carries in general aren't as threatening late game, but Lux reaches this point much faster than most other AP's do. There are plenty of other mid laners who require a skillshot to land in order to combo, but it doesn't limit them that badly (and I don't think it hurts lux too bad either). The comment about having lots of counters is certainly correct though. She is rough to lane against most of the popular mids |

No, utility spells do not need super hard scaling. Voli already has enough damage between his boosted auto attacks and bite, Irelia with TF already nearly instagibs sqishies and can't die. If you're having trouble using them, that sucks, but it's not the champ's fault. Probably PEBKAC. |

Sort of this. Moreover, she just hits a wall faster than most AP carries do. It's no secret that AP carries in general aren't as threatening late game, but Lux reaches this point much faster than most other AP's do. There are plenty of other mid laners who require a skillshot to land in order to combo, but it doesn't limit them that badly (and I don't think it hurts lux too bad either). I actually think her late game isn't too bad. Lux's late game is so safe that she will never be killed - because her Q and E abilities both contain CC and all of her abilities have very long range. Sure, she won't burst as hard as Veigar, but she will also survive the teamfight with ease. Basically she is pretty consistent in a teamfight. Also, if you ask me, being able to chunk out about half of the HP from the enemy AD carry from a very safe distance (not to mention 24 seconds cooldown) is pretty good.
There are some good points going for Lux compared to other AP carries in particular.
1. She peels pretty well and can protect her AD carry with her shield (which is actually pretty broken with high AP and maximized CDR... assuming you are a mind reader and hit your AD carry).
2. Her wave clear with her E/R is fantastic in late game and she can stall pushes forever (in late game you can wave clear with your R, which has a 24 seconds cooldown with max CDR... but minion waves come every 30 seconds. So in theory you can stall a lane indefinitely from a HUGE distance.
3. Lux's roam is pretty good. Good CC, good range, sniping the bottom lane from the dragon pit, etc.Last edit: 2012-08-03 07:04:18 |

everyone maxes Q. maxing E is super situational for when your opponent always charges it up for you and you need to be able to quickly shove the lane back at them (morde I guess?) |
