And your post would have been way more useful if you had posted it in the reddit thread. Posting it her, and commenting on a thread on an other forum makes it look like you just want to laugh at that guy and feel superior. If someone posts something that you think is retarded, and you tell him (preferably in a polite way), that is ok. If someone posts something you think is retarded, and you comment on that somewhere else where you hope he will not see it to tell other people how retarded it is, that is not really a nice thing to do.

There's absolutely never a good reason to rage in LoL chat. Literally the worst thing I've typed in (all) chat is "shut up idiot" when someone on the enemy team repeatedly called to report a player on his team for "being unskilled". I'll rage at people plenty in my head, sure, we all do that, but typing stuff into chat cannot accomplish anything, so why do it at all? I make a point of reporting anyone that rages in chat, calling people noobs or especially when they ask to have others reported just because they played badly.

why would i do that, they have the power of nice on their side which means bad things for my precious internet points if i posted something like this in the reddit thread

i like how the grand majority of my post wasn't even about the reddit post lol. just needed something to start the rant off, was hoping the other things i said that actually mattered were taken into account but it looks like everyone just stopped reading after the first few sentences. also i didn't write a page long rant about a reddit thread, i wrote a page long rant which the first few sentences of were about a reddit thread and the rest was about other stuff but the hey that only further justifies the fact that you only read the first few sentences.

first off neither post is useful, the difference is that mine wasn't trying to be. my post doesn't hurt anyone, and i never talked bad about him lol. there's nothing wrong with wanting attention for no reason, that's just as human as raging at people in video games.

edit: also reddit karma i forgot about that too, hey while you're being nice to new players don't forget to buy wards

some guy posted this in the reddit thread, kind of sums up what i'm trying to say only he made it sound nicer so it's more acceptable i guess? less ranting about random irrelevant topics too
+ Show Spoiler +

See I don't like that attitude. Especially since that guy said "to some people, it's not [just a game]." It's something more; it has potential to become something more. If people truly want eSports to become big, step #1 is to grow. By pissing off and alienating new players, how will this ever grow? It boggles my mind.

Look at real sports. When someone new plays the game, they don't get ruthlessly beat into the ground and trash talked and discouraged because they suck. People help them and coach them.

That being said, new players to real sports often play in newbie leagues and don't join the people who take the game as srs bsn right away. LoL does a similar thing in that that's what low levels are for. It's for people to learn. If you still can't play well after leveling from 1 to 30, you got bot, custom, and normal games. You have a whole slew of levels of competitiveness. If you have some idiot newbie 1300 duo queuing with their 2k elo buddy and ending up in a 1800 match and the idiot newbie ruins the game then by all means flame your hearts out at both the newbie and his friend; he shouldn't have been there in the first place. But if you're in a bot/custom/normal game and you expect everyone to play like a fucking pro, then you're just retarded.

it can't really be compared to real sports tbh, i don't think esports even has a place in this argument

i'm not saying new players being discouraged is a good thing. people aren't going to be nice for the sake of esports though, people aren't douchebags in game because of rational reasons they do it because it feels good. also rofl if anyone thinks that i'm trying to justify people being dicks in game then please read my post again.

Well let's try breaking your post down.

First look clearly at what the reddit poster is actually saying. "people are yelling at me because I suck, but not in a way that actually teaches me anything, it sucks, I really wish people would stop." Is there anything objectionable in that? Realistically... no. In fact I really don't understand your negative reaction to it, I mean I get that it comes from some sense of superiority over him and contempt for his corresponding inferiority but the specifics are closed to me.

His comment about people who enjoy yelling being "sick bastards" seems to have struck home with you, I'm not sure why you don't just pass over it. For reasons of self interest I'm inclined to think he's mistaken (read: I enjoy yelling at people in lol and I don't think I'm a sick bastard), but I seriously don't care to what degree he is right or wrong about it, it would be pedantic to get hung up on it and pathetic to feel offended.

that top reply is retarded. It's like... reverse whining, "ooooh, you think you have it rough, I'm telling you I really GOT TROLLED, you should man up and take it because I had to take worse." Nobody gives a fuck that that guy was playing since beta, what does that have to do with anything? Everyone who has been playing for a while knows how much worse the trollers and ragers used to be, are we supposed to get some kind of nostalgia from that? We're not three tour combat veterans telling the kids how hard life can be, we're playing fucking lol.

Then he has the same attitude xevious criticizes where he blames it on the community instead of the mechanisms of a team game... mechanisms that are not immutable but can be manipulated to dramatically dampen their effect, which riot has in fact done to great success. The issue is tractable, that's been demonstrated. The guy is full of shit, he just wants to don the mantle of internet patrician to feed his own ego.

Ok so now that we've disposed of the reddit thread let's move on to your other points.

also fuck this bullshit about the "LoL community" or "moba community" it's even more retarded that people think people that play this game and other mobas just also happen to all be angry kids (which they aren't). it's not about the community it's about the game. this game brings out something different in people, it gives people so many excuses to be angry + makes it really easy to blame other people for anything, the thing i hate the most if how the "starcraft community" is perceived to be so nice and goody two shoes or whatever when in reality it's the same fucking people lol. in league you can fuck up 4-9 other peoples' time whereas in sc2 the only person's time you can waste is your own if you choose to troll or whatever. people who rage and talk shit a lot in league don't do it because they're bad people (mostly) they do it because that's what the game brings out in them and it feels satisfying to do it. i cite the greater internet fuckwad theory which relates pretty specifically to this, in a 1v1 game there is no audience whereas in a 5v5 game it's the complete opposite it makes complete sense that normal people like the kind of people who post nice happy shit on reddit will randomly become douchebags when they're angry and 4-9 people are listening to them.

no objection here, I don't really understand how people consider there to be a coherent community from any viewpoint but the corporate one, and I don't think it's any different from that of other games - just the game is different, which results in different interactions.

also why is the ignore button so hard to press, hell just report them too if you think they don't deserve to play the game because they called you a noob or whatever. honestly it's really easy to tell if people are just mad to the point of not giving a fuck in which case nothing you say will make them not rage at you in which case you use your ignore button and stop trying to deal with them. at that point i'm perfectly fine with people getting banned for stuff like that partially because it's just completely irrational at that point but mostly just because at that point they're usually not trying in the game, most of the "rage" i see at high elo however is people who actually want to win the game and are mad at their team because they're causing that to not happen, which is still kind of annoying but i just have something against people who are putting 100% effort into the game getting reported/banned for it when we have such features as the ignore list.

People who are putting in 100% effort are already incredibly hard to ban, there's no issue here. You are saying tryharding players should be hard to get banned, they are, problem solved.

Your blathering about the ignore button I don't really understand, does this relate back to the reddit post somehow? The button exists and is useful, but the players it should be used on you say should get banned because they're "irrational" (lol). Is there some coherent point hiding in there? I think we all know obnoxious people are both worth ignoring and worth banning, what conclusion is this supposed to lead us to...?

of course even the really annoying people in ranked don't compare to the people that whine or rage the slightest bit in normal games. honestly at that point is just becomes pity; i feel sorry for the people that get angry in normal games, partially because they take normal games seriously at all and partially because they get mad about something that literally doesn't matter at all (unless i guess you're particularly concerned about your normal elo in which case i pity you even more). i sincerely wish these people would just play ranked, not only could they at least feel justified in their tryharding but also there's an end goal in ranked and you actually improve at the game. but playing tryhard normals and raging at people who are just playing games that don't matter to have fun and taking a break from the tryharding is probably the most unhappy and pathetic way anyone could possibly spend their free time.

Wow, full circle. Those players our poor reddit poster was talking about who just like to yell, apparently if they like to yell in normals as well as ranked they are the most "unhappy and pathetic" people in the world. Calling them sick bastards is ridiculous, shortsighted and stupid. Calling them unhappy and pathetic, makes sense yo.

The last half of your post contains no interesting conclusions, it starts nowhere and goes nowhere and says nothing. It's rambling, kind of drunken almost, but that's forgivable if you're actually driving at something, or at several things in a row. unfortunately you aren't, even though you think you are.

If you play you play to win. That means you care. If you don't rage you simply don't care enough and you shouldn't play.

There is a line between caring about winning and raging at other people. You can care about winning, and still not rage at other people, simply by accepting your teammates and the enemy players as part of the game, which you try to solve in a way that you win. You won't rage at the cards in poker either, even if you care about winning. At least i won't, maybe you do, i don't know.

Honestly the only problem I see with raging is that people lose focus on the game and are busier arguing than actually playing. Flaming someone for making a mistake doesn't exactly help them play better either.

Not really~ It's sort of the gaming way... It's sort of how community is.

I guess I'm just nostalgia fagging it up, but back in the days of CS, and CS:S, the trash talk was fucking amazing. Some of the funniest and wittiest lines of trash talk was said through the mic. It was glorious, either you could stand your ground with the trash talk or you just didn't say shit, it was awesome.

Also, I hate the whole "nice community" bullshit, that's just a load of shit. It's so fucking fake. Essentially people want normal people to "act" nice, they don't actually want a nice community. They just want a community that "acts" it. And you know what? FUCK THAT SHIT. The internets always been about being true to itself. I deal with enough fucking fake ass personas in the real world, I don't need the internet to turn into a circlejerk of fake ass people.

So wrong. There are several pro gamers that literally NEVER rage. And do better as a result. Good example would be Yellowpete from CLG.eu. He always has the highest ELO within his team, because he just plays his best in solo Q and never gets distracted by bullshit.

it's not about raging in chat or yelling at other people or whatever, it's about feeling anger at the game when you lose. just because he doesn't show it doesn't mean he doesn't feel it (this is an entirely different discussion that what we were talking about earlier btw).

In fact I really don't understand your negative reaction to it, I mean I get that it comes from some sense of superiority over him and contempt for his corresponding inferiority but the specifics are closed to me.

if someone made a post about how someone ragequit in the middle of a game for them twice in a row because they were doing badly, and how they really wish people would stop doing that, the post wouldn't get upvoted or given attention, it would just be treated as pointless whining. people wouldn't downvote that post because they have a negative reaction to it, they downvote it because it's pointless. i really want a grilled cheese sandwich right now, there's nothing negative about that only no one gives a shit. not the best analogy i know but you get the point, posts like that reddit post don't add anything constructive.

His comment about people who enjoy yelling being "sick bastards" seems to have struck home with you, I'm not sure why you don't just pass over it. For reasons of self interest I'm inclined to think he's mistaken (read: I enjoy yelling at people in lol and I don't think I'm a sick bastard), but I seriously don't care to what degree he is right or wrong about it, it would be pedantic to get hung up on it and pathetic to feel offended.

first of all why do you keep bringing up your own misinterpretations of my personal reactions to the post lol. how is that even relevant to the actual discussion of whether or not the original reddit post is valid. anyway this is going in the direction of something completely irrelevant but w/e. is it someone's fault if they are satisfied by raging at people? obviously it doesn't matter compared to whether or not they actually do express themselves negatively, but this guy is insinuating that solely because someone who is angry at someone else would enjoy calling him a retard makes him a "sick bastard," or as i like to say it, a "human being."

that top reply is retarded. It's like... reverse whining, "ooooh, you think you have it rough, I'm telling you I really GOT TROLLED, you should man up and take it because I had to take worse." Nobody gives a fuck that that guy was playing since beta, what does that have to do with anything? We're not three tour combat veterans telling the kids how hard life can be, we're playing fucking lol.

all you seem to be responding to in that post is the first part of the second paragraph where he talks about his own experiences (although i think some of that was figurative), which i admit is kind of silly and unnecessary but it's also not the part i was trying to cite. the first bit of the post is actually the most relevant imo.

Then he has the same attitude xevious criticizes where he blames it on the community instead of the mechanisms of a team game... mechanisms that are not immutable but can be manipulated to dramatically dampen their effect, which riot has in fact done to great success. The issue is tractable, that's been demonstrated. The guy is full of shit, he just wants to don the mantle of internet patrician to feed his own ego.

i assume you mean the other way around in which i blame it on the mechanics of the team game instead of the community. if however that's actually what you meant then reread my first post please. and again, the parts of the post where he talks about his own experiences isn't what i was trying to cite, it's irrelevant to the actual discussion anyway.

Your blathering about the ignore button I don't really understand, does this relate back to the reddit post somehow? The button exists and is useful, but the players it should be used on you say should get banned because they're "irrational" (lol). Is there some coherent point hiding in there? I think we all know obnoxious people are both worth ignoring and worth banning, what conclusion is this supposed to lead us to...?

kind of just ranting at that point but to clear it up a bit i'm saying people who transfer their rage into how they actually play the game (stealing buffs or farm or whatever, or just plain feeding or afking or doing whatever that involves trying less because they're mad at someone on their team) should be banned. if all they do it type but still try to win the ignore button should suffice.

Wow, full circle. Those players our poor reddit poster was talking about who just like to yell, apparently if they like to yell in normals as well as ranked they are the most "unhappy and pathetic" people in the world. Calling them sick bastards is ridiculous, shortsighted and stupid. Calling them unhappy and pathetic, makes sense yo.

that's more a personal opinion as apposed to trying to dehumanize people for a natural human reaction such as getting angry.

The last half of your post contains no interesting conclusions, it starts nowhere and goes nowhere and says nothing. again just my perspective of normals vs ranked, i only find it weird that people still get angry about losing when there's nothing to lose. i wish you didn't try to relate everything in my post this wasn't exactly supposed to be a well organized college essay.
