Few days ago I read an online article (it was in czech, so I guess it's useless to post the source here) about mobile phones in Korea. It analysed the smarthphone market, said how apple was the only foreign company to succeed there, etc. At the end of the article it was mentioned that everyone has big smatphones and unlike european women, even korean women use phones like SGS2/3 which can seem little bit comical in their small hands. The author gave an explanation - small heads are sign of beauty in Korea and women use these big smartphones because it makes their head look smaller (especially when calling with someone).
I never heard this before and it sounded quite funny to me so I thought I would ask here.

Yes, there are quite some beauty standards in Korea that don't exist in the western world. How do you define beauty in the west? Everyone has different tastes. In Korea? Small head, some height, light skin, "V" formed visage. Obviously there are also people in Korea that are considered good-looking who are outside of these standards, but yes, the above characteristics are what make a "beautiful" Korean.
What do you desire? Money? Glory? Power? Revenge? Or something that surpasses all other? Whatever you desire - that is here. Tower of God

It's not just an "eastern" thing. Head to body ratio is something that has been looked at for a looooong time in western culture. The head is the primary measuring unit for the artists, and in the case of comic book artists or animators, super heroes are generally given smaller head to body ratios in order to emphasize strength, size and aesthetics.
Silly but slightly logical as small does connote to cute which is a big part of 'beauty' especially in Asian cultures. I've had many female friends who got the Samsung Galaxy Note (5.3" screen smartphone) to make their heads seem porportionally smaller.
