I figured barely anyone here goes to the official sc2 forums, but they did a cool writeup on the finals and the OSL as a whole. Here's an excerpt + link.
Thirteen years of history. Thirteen years of stories. Thirteen years of Brood War. It’s all led up to this single match. Heo “JangBi” Yeong Moo and Jung “Fantasy” Myung Hoon will face each other in the first and only repeat finals in Starleague history, for the honor of being the last Brood War Starleague champion. Fittingly, this finale will kick off with a revival of the original eSports rivalry: a Legends Match between Lim “BoxeR” Yo Hwan and Hong “YellOw” Jin Ho.
It’s been twelve years and eight months since Choi “Freemura” Jin Woo defeated Kook “TheBOy” Ki Bong in the Tooniverse Progamer Korea Open, the precursor to the Ongamenet Starleague. On that day, no one could have imagined what that tournament would eventually grow into. Twelve years and thirty-three OSLs later, professional Brood War would be recognized as an eSports phenomenon like nothing the world had ever seen. Over twelve years, this tournament has provided a lifetime’s worth of incredible stories. To attempt to do justice to all of them would be futile. But it’s at the very beginning of this tournament’s history that we can find the context in which to bid it farewell.

| Was a great read and pretty solid for a introductory for people new to BW. Thinking about it, it would have been nice if they've done this more often but....eh it's something. |

| I have a feeling that they just want to make sure everyone knows that Brood War is ending. |

Of course, as one chapter of the Starleague comes to a close, another begins. The tagline for this season is, “New Beginning Not the End.” The preliminary rounds of the first StarCraft II Starleague have begun. So this isn’t the end for these players. We’ll see them again – in many future matches.

yea. it's essentially the purpose. they are trying to get on BW fans good side by offering them support so they can sway opinion and hopefully convince more to make the transition.
i'd honestly prefer they didn't make these posts at all. it just annoys me. where was the support all these years. why havn't they offered to help grow it before. i know they've been "talking" to kespa for a long time but as far as i recall that was all about getting them to pay royalties. as opposed to actually offering support and maybe getting royalties out of that.
whatever. sad face. |

There've been what, 3 previous OSLs (and 3 MSLs) since the release of SC2? Yet they only started "covering" them once they were switching to SC2.
Curious. |

Blizzard used to do cool things like Mystery Map Invitational and Sandlot. Patching a really old game, etc. However, it's been a number of years since those days, and in the last few years they've taken an active role in destroying it. Not sure if the lawsuits were before or after Activision merged with Blizzard, but it would be pretty conspicuous if it were after. I am under the impression that they asked for a fee / royalty which was impossible to cooperate with (there just wouldn't be enough funds to pay it AND run the league) for SC1, while being much more reasonable about their fees to run SC2, perhaps even generous. That is my pet theory ;p Which is not totally out of my ass, since that is exactly what MBC and KeSPA and OGN were complaining about, that they simply would have to shut down because they couldn't afford the sudden change in fees Blizzard wanted. I don't think it's possible they can be asking for the same amount with SC2 since there was no kurfuffle over it. It was just 'oh suddenly KeSPA is running SC2 with Blizzard's name all over the OGN studio.'Last edit: 2012-08-02 13:33:17 |

If I had sc2, I would have posted the same thing this guy posted
"Blizz, thank you for putting the time and effort, patching Brood War for years after it was released and creating the most balanced, most incredible RTS that has ever existed (and still unmatched). However, gotta say !@#$ you to Mike for his hard work to kill professional Brood War in Korea. I'll be attending this match in person. I love watching my favorite sport." |

Can't tell if you are flipping off blizzard, or insinuating that blizzard is giving us all the middle finger because they finally accomplished what they set out to do a couple of years ago. Both seem appropriate. |

it feels really perverted to make these articles about the last OSL matches, when they clearly only care about cashing in on the transition.

| Nice lip service, but they jackhammered the foundation of the original game to reconstruct a different one for the sequel. They just don't want to alienate possible BW fans who haven't transitioned yet. The 'go play BW' comment was classic. That's like telling Michael Phelps to go train for a marathon. | No one pointed out any sort of ulterior motive when the other two articles went up...why are people all of the sudden claiming that there's some sort of nefarious trick instead of an attempt at a respectful goodbye to the game? It's not like it spends the entire time pimping SC2, it just mentions it at the very end, and it IS true - the players will be playing the game and OS2L is still gonna happen. OGN used the same tagline and emphasis. |
