Hey ya'll. Every time I try to stream my game fps dramatically, for example with SC2, it usually runs at like 100-110 fps on whatever settings I'm using, and the moment I turn XSplit on it drops to 10-15. I read on the XSplit forums that there's usually this kind of problem with my graphics card.
Specs: + Show Spoiler +CPU: Intel i7 860 @ 2.8GHz GPU: Sapphire ATI 5770 HD 1GB GDDR5 RAM : 6GB OS : Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit Upload 2mbit/s Download 25mbit/s
XSplit settings: + Show Spoiler +Quality : 6 Bitrate : 1000 Resolution : 1280x720 Fps : 25 Streamed to twitch.tv
What's odd is that the frame drops aren't visible to someone watching the stream, I'm the only one that can see it. Also to note that lowering any settings to really low doesn't help at all, I've played with it a lot.
I'm mostly curious if a graphic card upgrade could help with anything or if I would bottleneck somewhere else and make this not a worthwhile purchase.
Thanks a ton for your time!

'Preset' is set in your channel settings, and can use up a lot of resources if set too slow according to your cpu model. But, do you drop to 10-15 FPS immediately when running XSplit, before turning on the stream? And are those numbers taken lategame or say in the main menu? Which capture method do you use to capture SC2?
Can I ask where you found the issue described on our forum? I'd like to verify the specifics of the case. |

The preset I'm using is XSplit default, should I change that?
Yes, I drop to those low FPS as soon as XSplit is running, before the stream is turned on. I took the numbers from the game, right at the beginning but it is also noticeable on the main menu, I didn't do an fps test for that but assuming similar results.
I can't seem to find the thread from the XSplit forums anymore, sorry.
EDIT : To add, my Starcraft screen window isn't even rendered in the XSplit broadcast and the drop occurs.Last edit: 2012-08-03 14:59:02 |

| Changed it and the fps seems to be hovering around 20, I guess it's a little better but I feel like I should be able to have a lot more. |

| The thing is that preset is not used when not streaming, meaning it won't change anything for you until you start broadcasting. Since the fps drop happens even before capturing, I'd have to see your Task Manager (Performance tab and Processes tab sorted by cpu). Also, make sure you have Aero and Virtual Camera disabled in XSplit options. Last edit: 2012-08-04 00:31:18 |

Thanks^^ The cpu usage for XSplit seem a little high, but not to the point it alone could cause the fps drop. Do you see the checkbox saying 'Show processes from all users'? Please try and enable that and look for additional processes taking up cpu resources.
I'd also like you to try and clear the current presentation (do save first if you want to retain the current layout). Go to File - New Presentation, then rest your mouse and notice the XSplit cpu usage on the processes tab again. It should be at 3-10% maximum.
Edit: Do you have any usb peripherals like mic, web camera, headset, sound card etc. attached? Could you try without them too.Last edit: 2012-08-04 00:57:48 |

So I cleared the presentation and now the CPU usage is at 5%, which you say is normal and does improve the game fps dramatically. However the moment I add a screen region it drops back down to what it was before :\
I tried unplugging mic and that didn't do anything noticeable.
EDIT: Processes after clearing the presentation, showing for all users. + Show Spoiler +Last edit: 2012-08-04 01:26:57 |

| Bumping this: my main interest is knowing if an upgrade of some sort can resolve the problem, or maybe I'm capturing my screen region in an unoptimal way somehow. |

| I just reread your OP. You wrote you had 15 FPS ingame, and I took it literally. I guess what you meant is that it *feels* like 15 FPS, since your stream looks fine. Is this correct? |
