Overview Persona 4 Arena is an upcoming fighting game slated for release in arcades as well as on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The game will feature characters from both Persona 3 and Persona 4 on the roster accompanied by their personas. It is being developed together by Atlus, the creators of the Persona series, and Arc System Works, whose fighting game credits include the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series.
Two months after the events of Persona 4, Teddie suddenly disappears. A new rumor begins to spread across Inaba about a television program that appears if one looks into a turned off TV on a rainy night; a program by the name of "P-1 Grand Prix" where high school friends fight each other.
At the same time that this rumor starts, members of the Investigation Team start to go missing. The remaining members watch this program only to discover Teddie introducing the main characters as challengers of a tournament, but with catch phrases that they wouldn't normally say. The characters are surprised by this, so they decide to get together once more and enter the TV World to find out what happened to Teddie and what he is doing. However, while entering the Midnight Channel, something goes wrong and the characters who entered are separated and somehow brainwashed into fighting each other.
Given that the story takes place two months after the events of Persona 4, which ends on March 21st, 2012, P4U will most likely take place around May 21st, 2012. The story will also tell of how Aigis (who was originally in Persona 3) came to Inaba and how she became a participant in the P-1 Grand Prix.
Mitsuru, having become a university student and socialite since the events of Persona 3, visits Inaba after having a certain object stolen from her. Akihiko, having gone to college after graduating high school and then travelling the world in order to become a better fighter, receives an invitation from Mitsuru to join her in the tournament and returns to Japan. Persona 3's weapon's seller, Officer Kurosawa (who has since left the police force) makes a non-playable appearance.
The game's story mode will initially have four characters to choose from (Yu Narukami, Chie Satonaka, Yukiko Amagi and Yosuke Hanamura), with other characters being unlocked as the Story Mode is played through. It has been stated by the game's director Kazuhisa Wada, on the P4 Arena Official Blog, that Persona 4 Arena's story mode will be around 30 to 40 hours long.

Aigis is a fighter with two different stances or modes: Normal Mode and Orgia Mode. Her moves vary between them. With the limited number of bullets at her disposal, they are used to keep opponents away and punish them for reckless use of a Persona. When Orgia mode is available, it is best to get close to the opponent and attack them to conserve ammo.

Akihiko, being a boxer, is a close range fighter who is effective at rushing opponents. He needs to be close to the opponent in order to be effective, so his Persona has the ability to attract opponents near him.

Myriad Truths (222C + D) [P]: Yu plunges his katana into the ground, electrifying the opponent. He then performs the same attack he used to end the final boss in Persona 4 by having his Persona become Izanagi-no-Okami and send a massive lightning bolt towards the opponent.

Dodge (B + D): An invincible counter that negates an opponent's attack and inflicts damage. Skills
Tentarafoo (236C or D) [SB / P]: Jiraiya sucks in air, and slaps the ground, blowing air into the opponent. It is unblockable and causes "panic status", which temporarily reverses the opponent's left and right controls. Dash Spring (236A or B) [SB]: Yosuke rushes forward and bounces on the opponent. Flying Kunai (j.236 or 214 + C or D) [SB]: Yosuke jumps up and throws some daggers into the ground, which makes the opponent bounce into the air on hit. What a Pain! (B + D) [P]: Kanji surrounds himself with electricity via his Persona, damaging opponents who are in proximity to Kanji. Skills
Cruel Attack (236A or B) [SB]: Kanji leaps and slams his chair vertically downwards towards the opponent. Added Cruel Attack (236A or B) [SB]: Kanji leaps out and slams into the opponent chair-first. Can be executed after certain attacks. This'll Hurt! (214C or D) [P]: A command grab where Kanji throws their opponent across the screen and his Persona then impales them with its weapon, electrocuting them. Gotcha! Yukiko Furious Action
Dia (B + D) [P]: Allows Yukiko to heal HP as long as the buttons are held, and also absorbs projectiles. When used at first, it pushes back the opponent if they are close to her. Skills
Agi (236A or B) [SB / P / AIR]: Yukiko summons her Persona to perform an instantaneous fire ball. The distance of this fireball depends on which button is pressed to execute it. It can result in two hits if the opponent is too close to Konohana Sakuya when the move is performed. Maragi (236C or D) [SB / P]: Yukiko summons her Persona to perform a wave of fire that travels at the bottom of the screen. Once it hits the opponent, the wave becomes a vertical column of fire. Fire Boost (214C) [P]: Increases the strength of Yukiko's fire attacks and it is stackable. Its level can be seen via Yukiko's fire gauge. Fire Break (214D) [P]: Makes Yukiko's next fire attack an unblockable move. It is visible by a red aura that surrounds Yukiko. Anti-S SP Pistol alpha (236236A) [A]: Naoto jumps backwards and fires several bullets from her assault rifle, muting the opponent. Anti-S SP Pistol beta (236236B) [A]: Naoto shoots a violet bullet from her shotgun, forcing the opponent's Fate Gauge down by a lot. Hamaon/Mudoon (236236C / D) [P]: When the opponent is at 0 with their Fate Gauge, either move will kill them instantly. Hamaon takes the place of a beam of light from the ground, Mudoon is a black smog that comes from the air. Awakened SP Skills
Raid (214214A or B then while walking, A or B): Naoto attacks her opponent by shooting a barrage of bullets. Critical Shot (214214A or B then while walking, C or D): Naoto kicks the opponent with a kick that bounces them all around the walls. Instant Kill
Judge of Hell (222C + D) [P]: Naoto flips her pistol in the air, aims at her opponent and performs a fatal shot.
Teddie Furious Action
Teddie Decoy (B + D): Teddie strikes a pose and blows the opponent away as an unblockable counter. It induces the "Rage" status effect. Skills
Bearscrew (236A or B) [SB / AIR]: Teddie spirals towards the opponent with his claw lunged in front of him. Puppeteddie (214A or B) [SB / AIR]: Teddie outstretches his arm while transforming his hand to attack the opponent. Teddivision (236C or D) [SB / P]: Teddie places televisions on the ground for teleportation. Teddie Warp (236C or D) [SB / P]: When televisions placed by Teddie are on the field, this sends Teddie flying out of them. 2D Teddie: (22A or B) [SB]: Teddie flattens himself and lays on the ground. Tomahawk (236236C or D) [P / AIR]: With the help of Kintoki Douji, Teddie throws a tomahawk missile towards his opponent. Awakened SP Skills
Circus Bear (214214C or D): Teddie jumps on a large ball and rolls it across the screen as an unblockable attack. Instant Kill
Kamui Kablooey (222C + D) [P]: Kintoki-Douji crashes on the opponent and is sent flying towards the sky to finally explode in fireworks with the opponent inside Teddie's Persona.
Elizabeth Furious Action
Shuffle Time (B + D): Elizabeth moves forward with invulnerable frames and performs a throw on the opponent that deals no damage. Depending on the amount of SP Elizabeth has, the opponent will then be inflicted with a certain status effect. Skills
Maziodyne (236A or B) [SB / AIR / P]: Thanatos fires a large, horizontal, purple beam of electricity towards the enemy. Mabufudyne (214A or B) [SB / P]: Fragments of ice are launched towards the opponent in an upward, diagonal direction and the opponent is inflicted with freeze if hit. Magarudyne (236C or D) [SB / AIR / P]: Thanatos carries Elizabeth in a green gust of wind. Elizabeth's direction can be influenced while performing this skill. Maragidyne (214C or D) [SB / P]: Columns of blue flame rush towards the opponent either from the front or from the back depending on which button is pressed to perform the skill. SP Skills
Mind Charge (236236A or B): Elizabeth converts her health into SP to automatically go into her Awakening mode. The health converted this way become blue health. Mahamaon (236236C) [P]: Thanatos creates a Hamaon circle underneath him that takes 10 seconds to activate. If the opponent is in this circle when it activates, they automatically lose all of their health. If Elizabeth is hit or blocks an attack, the circle disappears. Mamudoon (236236D) [P]: Elizabeth places a Mudoon circle in the air that activates and shoots dark fog after 10 seconds. If the opponent is in the air and in range of this circle when it activates, they automatically lose all of their health. If Elizabeth is hit or blocks an attack, the circle disappears. Diarahan (214214A or B): Elizabeth recovers 20% of her HP. Ghastly Wail (214214C or D) [P]: Elizabeth summons Thanatos to perform a command grab. If the grab is successful, the opponent receives significant damage and is inflicted with the fear status effect. Instant Kill
Megidolaon (222C + D) [P]: When hit while performing this, Elizabeth will imprison her opponent with tarot cards and launch some at them as well. Thanatos then performs Megidolaon, which causes a huge explosion of energy from above.
Labrys Furious Action
5th Gen Axe Slash (B + D): Labrys performs a large upwards swing with her axe which launches the opponent away. Skills
[1] Chain Knuckle (236A or B) [SB]: Labrys stretches her arm across the screen. [2] Winch Dash (During [1]: 6): Labrys drags herself towards the opponent. Brake (During [2]: 4): While sliding towards her opponent, Labrys halts the movement. Extra Attack (During [2]: A or B) [SB]: After sliding towards the opponent, Labrys jumps and swings her axe. Guillotine Axe (214A or B) [SB / AIR]: Labrys performs a large downward strike with her axe. Titanomachia (214214C or D) [P]: After inputting a string of commands for Asterius to perform while he is charging, Asterius will unleash a full screen attack. If no commands are given to Asterius, it will immediately perform the full screen attack. Instant Kill

Sad to see not much hype in this thread, this is the fighting game I've been waiting for.
Who's everyone looking at maining? I came into the game wanting to play Labrys or Mitsuru (because I am a Chun/footsies-oriented player) or maybe Yukiko, but now I think I'm going hardcore Chie and maybe experimenting with Naoto. Chie is just tooooo cool as a character and her pressure seems impossible to deal with.
Not gonna lie, I think this is a masterful game; it is the most fundamentally sound of all airdash-offense based fighters. Every character is unique and interesting, the game is not hard to pick up, it has a low execution barrier, but it retains all of the depth of games like MB and BB. If anyone is on the fence about this game, just buy it and give your soul to it, for real.

So sour about the fact that Australia is yet to get a confirmed release date for this. Was a huge fan of BlazBlue back in the day (about a year ago ). Hope it gets shipped to our shores soon.

Pretty sure the PAL (EU) version which is released on Sept 7th works with Australian PS3's.
Tho yeah, the wait sucks and torturing myself watching all the hype/streams surrounding it certainly isn't helping.

at this point i wish i had more fighting game experience as there is so many technical things for someone who got it for being Persona related over fighting related. Right now im 2-16 online. loving it otherwise

Waited for GameStop to open and picked up my copy yesterday morning and played it for about 4 hours before work and I'm fiending to play some more lol. My main is Akihiko but I dabbled with other characters trials and I love the styles from each member of the cast. As stated already by other players Chie is fun as hell to play as, her offensive pressure is wild.
I haven't gotten on PSN to play but how is the netcode? Also I'm up for some games to help level up, I'm on PSN and my handle is KingKosi.

Almost exactly my story. Got to gamestop at 10am, had to work at 3. played the entire time in between. IMO as someone with minimal PSN experience the netcode isnt awful. Dont let the prefight scare you to much, it looks like its going to lag horribly but as the fight start it clears up a LOT.

My copy is supposed to arrive today, I'm so excited to play but the online play still needs to be fixed (360). Oh well, I will just have to practice Narukami or Naoto till then.

What happened at the end
In P4U moves can clash aganst one another. What I'm going to say is purely speculative on my part so if anyone with more knowledge has anything to share, feel free. To me, it seems that whenever 2 moves collide without hitting a player's hittable zone (ie, the character's body) is when you get a clash. There might be some sort of priority that moves have in this game, but I have no idea. In any case, since both players are using the same move with the same character, that point is moot. The move they're doing has invincibility on startup so neither player is ever coming into contact with the other's hittable zone. Hence the clash.
What seems to be the case is that after a clash, you can cancel the rest of the move into something else. Or maybe the move automatically gets canceled. If that's the case than this video is even sillier. Both players decided to cancel their DP into another DP until the timer ran out.
They're called DP's because they share similar properties to Dragon Punches in Street Fighter, but they have some very different properties as well. For one, to perform a DP in P4U, you only need to press the B and D attack buttons simaltaneously instead of needing a forward, down, down-foward motion plus attack in SF4. The tradeoff is that it costs health to perform a DP. So they both burn all their health performing this attack until only a sliver is left which results in a draw.
Mashing DP in fighting games is similar to what 6-pooling every game is to SC2. Brainless, completely scrubby, effective against bad players and subject to a lot of ridicule.

I wasn't sure if I was going to get this game as most of my friends aren't really into fightng games and I'm pretty bad at them in general. I watched the youtube recording of the Cross Counter pre-release tournament, caved in and ran to my nearest Gamestop to pick up a copy (literally ran to get there before it closed).
When Labrys was first announced I 100% wanted to make her my main. Unfortunately, I'm already feeling kinda "meh" about her style so I'm continuing down my list to Yukiko. So far she's clicking with me a lot more and I'll probably stick with her for now. Though the more I think about it, the more I really want to try out Aigis. Selective mixup offense with decent deffensive options attracts the Blanka player in me. The fact that she does incredibly high damage is just icing on the cake.

I'm sure a lot of top players will try and take a crack at it as they do with most games but will see where it's at in a month. I think this game will have longevity though it's pretty damn good.
