That is standard for Double Elimination and is fair. The abomination that is extended series is only used in MLG (Map score from first series counting as well if the players run into eachother again)
Fair, dont make me laugh. And the fact that it completely kills the hype of the game. I know most places use this, at least before. I really despise it. Oh well. It is not me who is playing so it does not matter that much to me at the moment.
Why is it unfair that the winner of the upper bracket (who has not dropped a series up until this point) has a 1 series advantage in the finals. If it wasn't done this way then losing a series in the finals would eliminate them without giving them a second chance (as EVERY OTHER PLAYER has gotten if they lose earlier) ?
Because the other player may have had a much easier bracket, or the player just had a bad day/game and it will give him a severe punishment. Having a 1 set lead is a way to big advantage for the player coming from the winner bracket. But most of all it takes out all the excitement from the viewer. Someone coming from the loser bracket is almost guaranteed to lose.
Honestly I agree, the Winner vs Winner semifinal game is often much more exciting and tense than the actual final game in extended bracket series. Whoever makes it through the winners bracket not only has this big advantage by extended series, but is much more rested and had to play far fewer games to get there.
Having to play less games is advantage enough. |
