I recently built a new system.
Motherboard: ASRock H77 Pro4-MVP
CPU: i5-3550
Videocard: MSI R7850 2GB Twin Frozr III
RAM: 8 gbs @1600mhz
HD: 1 tb Samsung Spinpoint F3
OS: Win 7 - 64 Bit
I have recently went though a slew of drivers, BIOS settings, Catalyst Control Center settings, and Windows settings in an attempt to improve my gaming FPS (Diablo 3, GW2, LoL, Arma 2, and SC2 tested). Nothing has shaken the mediocre FPS on medium/high settings at 1600x900 with frequent FPS drops to ~20 or lower when enemies/players/events happen on screen. Outside of gaming, the computer has performed fine.
The only abnormal thing I have noticed in my system monitoring/testing (heat, usage, benchmarks, etc...) is that the GPU usage (according to MSi Afterburner) is often extremely high, at 95% or above for long stretches. This isn't always the case, but it is much more so than I would have expected.
I'm wondering what my options are at this point. Reformatting or RMA seem to be the only ones I have left. Am I missing less drastic solutions?Last edit: 2012-08-12 09:47:28 |

| Bench says you aren't using approved drivers, and 12.6 catalyst which is the latest iirc is approved. So something funky there. Check your drivers |

Done that unfortunately. Have ran 12.6, and 12.7 (beta). Had 12.7 on during the test I posted which is why it wasn't approved.

Diablo will do that with any system, it has a lot of issues loading in assets etc. If you play for like 6 hours without restarting PC it should be mostly fine til you restart, but blizzard hasnt really said anything aside from posting a small "fix" that didnt really fix anything. Turning off hard drive indexing IIRC.
Do you have power saving settings on your CPU (control panel - power options, set to high performance) or GPU? (should be in catalyst somewhere) or something like core parking not disabled yet? google, theres power saving settings everywhere these days that can cause a bunch of issues.
I heard guild wars 2 wasnt performing up to par, and 100-200fps on league of legends at a mix of settings is not out of the ordinary i think. You might not have major issues, need to widen your testing aside from LoL, a game in beta, and a game that SHOULD still be in betaLast edit: 2012-08-11 16:05:32 |

| If you have 95% GPU usage when not running a benchmark or a game with GPU capped settings then something is very wrong. I have 0% GPU and CPU usage when staring at desktop |

| GPU usage also might appear really high (95%) if you're stuck in a 3D low power setting. Check the clock speeds as well. |
