Hi everyone! Buying a laptop for college. $500 max. Found a decent deal at $400, should be able to play SC2 at low (hopefully can play with at least 30 fps in 200/200 battles?). My brother says I can probably stream with it too (not high quality, but watchable, like most youtube videos), but what do you think?
The laptops are AMD A6-3420 1.4/1.5GHz (Quad Core) 4GB Memory 320/500GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6520G ~6 lbs
$400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215371&Tpk=Acer%20Aspire%20A5560-7414 $360 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230457
Is the difference between 1.5 GHz and 1.4 GHz noticeable? I ask this because if the keyboard for the ACER one is bad, but the ASUS one is good, maybe i'll buy the ASUS one.
I looked it up and this ACER model has a chiclet keyboard. Judging from the picture, does it look like it'll get dirty often (and is it frustrating to clean?) Does it look like I can play SC2 at 130 apm without getting uncomfortable or sore? There aren't any reviews complaining about the keyboard, though I've had bad experiences with ACER keyboards before (and so do some of the reviewers), but this keyboard seems to be fine or no? I hate those ACER keyboards where the keys are flimsy and get sticky/stuck easily, and there is almost no space between the keys and the keys are completely flat and slippery. So hard to type on those for me. This chiclet keyboard seems to be different though?
You can click the gallery and zoom in on one of the pictures to see the keyboard in higher quality.
I like the "normal" keyboard, you know where the keys are elevated (the edge of the keys are sloping down). Though I guess with chiclet keyboards, it is a bit softer. Aren't chiclet keyboards the kind where you can't press a key down too much though?
Thanks so much in advance!Last edit: 2012-08-12 15:35:59 |

I honestly don't get all the hype about keyboards. Yes some are better, but are others really that much worse? I type on membrane ones for 8 or 9 hours a day and don't have any issues with "fatigue" and I don't pull higher apm with my friends mech board. I really don't see you streaming on that but should be able to play low at around 30fps.

I'm not into keyboards like that, I'm not looking for keyboards to raise apm, i'm just looking for keyboards that won't bog me down. Like I said,
"I hate those ACER keyboards where the keys are flimsy and get sticky/stuck easily, and there is almost no space between the keys and the keys are completely flat and slippery. So hard to type on those for me."
So yeah, some are terrible ;O I mean, if you want to see something I typed with an ACER laptop... here is part of an old blog of mine, just glance at how bad it is X)

You mean 30 fps at start, average, or 30 fps minimum like in big battles?

Well with either of those you really won't be able to stream. You will be to limited in your processor at least for streaming. As for your price range I would go with something closer to $500 with amd A series processor.
I would suggest just because if your gonna use it to play 1v1s you will get better fps and at the resolution supported by the PC you should be able to play sc2 with at least 50+ fps on low settings, and probably maintain at least 30+ during late game.
Plus with the processor being a tad bit faster your performance in sc2 will also be better.

Wow, thank you SO much for that suggestion! I didn't like the blue acer, but I've seen that purple/pink tint before, and it looks great! The keyboard also looks good (visually and from 1 of the reviews) -- the way the keys are curved looks pretty.
The laptop is .1 GHz faster and has 2 more GB of RAM, only for $80 more. Compared to the $40 between the 1.4 GHz and 1.5 GHz in the OP, that seems pretty great. Not to mention, this graphics card is better too!
Again, thanks a lot boblead! :D I thought I looked through all the laptops, don't remember seeing this one. |
