"Belarus shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk stripped of gold for doping"
source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/aug/13/belarusian-shot-putter-nadzeya-ostapchuk-gold?newsfeed=true
I expected more (caught) instances of cheating.
Interesting to note that: "Rogge said that the IOC will store all samples from London and can reanalyse them, revise results and reallocate medals until the statute of limitations expires in August 2020."
So we could potentially see more instances like this unearthed in the future.
Also from the article: "Besides Ostapchuk, only one athlete tested positive for a banned substance after competing. The USA judo fighter Nick Delpopolo was cited for traces of marijuana in his urine sample." lol

If I am not mistaken she also has a history of doping. |

Thats not really a crappy way to get the gold if the winner was actually a cheater. Anyone can take steroids and lift a gazillion pounds but it's nothing worthy of a medal. |

Not according to the world wide web.

It's definitely crappy. She didn't get to enjoy the Olympic experience of getting a gold medal on the podium, hearing her national anthem, etc. I'm not saying shes unhappy that she has the gold now but it's probably a bit bitter sweet.Last edit: 2012-08-13 22:24:48 |

Ah, that is a shame. Doping makes me paranoid when watching sporting events, never being able to truly trust the winner. |
| | Oh, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback. |

Very mistaken. Look up your facts instead of spouting doping accusations...
I'm glad drugs cheats get caught and punished. It's a shitty way to ruin sport. |

It's pretty bullshit, but you can't really do anything about it.
Thankfully Valerie had already won gold in Beijing, so she got to enjoy the full ceremony and celebration at least once in her life, but that doesn't change the fact that she was denied what she deserved this time around. Even though she ends up with the medal and the satisfaction, the actual moment and rush of emotion is a huge part of the gold medal winning experience, and there's no way to retrieve that.
At least the medal ended up in the right place in the end, which boosts us two places up the medal table.Last edit: 2012-08-14 00:36:51 |

| Doping is pretty common, with small amounts you can get away easily AFAIK. It's just those who over-dope that screw themselves up (gold medal and future health issues) |

Sometimes I wonder if they shouldn't just legalize doping...
Unfortunately that opens like fifty more cans of worms. Hopefully, the tests keep getting better and stuff like the biological passport becomes enough of a significant deterrent that doping goes way down. |

| The Olympics are a lesson on how to not compete like a douche. When you cheat, you're a douche, and douches don't deserve to win. This sucks for Belarus, to be so proud of their athlete, only to have found out that the athlete was just a cheating douche. Last edit: 2012-08-14 04:37:12 |

Since when has performance enhancing drugs been called doping in general? I always thought doping just referred to blood doping, which is for endurance stuff (so I got confused how a shotputter would dope)
sad that this is what I get out of this. Athletes take drugs, just tests can't always find them. |
