Since I'm going to start streaming again soon, I thought I'd take the time to update this thread.
Hi teamliquid! My name is Kurtis Ling and I play the hard carry role for Team Dignitas www.team-dignitas.net. I'm 20 years old and am currently a student at the University of British Columbia.
I used to stream relatively frequently, but stopped because I felt that graphics lag caused me to showcase poor play. However, I will be building a new computer very soon in order to stream again. Similarly to before, I will try my best to address all questions asked in chat. Obviously I will still miss some, so feel free to post any questions that I may miss in this thread.
I come from an sc2 background (na server gm all 3 races game handle ValiditySAGA), which allows me to have what I feel are solid DotA2 mechanics. I also tend to build heroes a bit differently than most people (a lot of my builds like manta brood/mek core on ranged tanky carries have become used a decent amount in the DotA scene), so feel free to ask in this thread--the explanations may be a bit long for talking on stream--if you don't understand my reasoning behind a build. Also feel free to critique said builds, because I generally enjoy any discussion, and often, said discussion leads to a more efficient build or other positives.
Once I start streaming again, I will be replying daily to this thread. So please feel free to leave any constructive criticism or requests in this topic.
Hi Teamliquid! My name is Kurtis Ling and I'm currently playing DotA2 under the handle Aui_2000 for team dignitas (winners of prodota2 $10000).
I am completely new to streaming and self-commentating my play, so at the beginning my speaking will probably be limited to answering questions asked in chat by viewers, other than when I am on skype with friends. If you have any critiques of how I am running my stream, please feel free to tell me what I can do better (in a hopefully articulate and logical way--I don't really mind if you want to be direct and confrontational about it).
I play the 1 role for my team (hard carry/most farm given) and come from an sc2 background (gm accounts with z/t/p) which hopefully allows me to have decent mechanics. I tend to go builds that stray from the norm, but unless I'm doing a for fun build (i.e. dagons everywhere) I will only do a build if it makes sense to me (lightning bear/manta brood/mek viper etc.), so feel free to ask in chat what my reasoning behind a build is (or if I miss it in chat because I only have 1 monitor, then post in this thread). Note that I obviously don't believe that my builds are without flaws, but usually they have some sort of logical thought behind them. I also try to understand game mechanics as well as I can, so please ask questions about those too (these ones I also get to review/often learn new stuff so I love them) and I actually really enjoy playing theory-craft.
I hope to use this thread as a home base of sorts for any (hopefully) viewers that want to talk about/ask questions/write constructive feedback about my stream. This is because teamliquid.net has, out of habit from sc2, become one of the websites that I will routinely check every day, thus hopefully allowing me to answer every question asked in this thread.
