Some old broodwar players, like By.sun, By.hero, By.Fantasy use the By. prefix (some use it still, some don't). What does it stand for? Is it an old team? Just a mate thing? Where does it derive from?

| They are clan tags. Many players are parts of clans from before they became pro. The clans practice together and participate in scrims against other clans. Many of them keep their clan tag when they become pro, I guess to stay true to their roots. |

By. was more than just a clan...it was practically a progaming factory. The leader (appropriately named By.Leader) had connections with pro teams and was able to get tryouts for his most promising players. If I remember correctly, By. was created by members of an older clan called Siz) in 2004 or 2005.

To be fair Korean clans are in general much bigger than western ones, also including pretty much all skill brackets. So, yeah. They all tend to be rather large in numbers. |
