It's that time again! We're back with second installation of the NoisE Amateur StarLeague. Where mid rank players test their skills at the most prestigious competition devoted to them! This season will be better than ever with a new format that offers unique and exciting Brood War to happen. Follow this thread for more information and remember...
Make... Some... NoisE!!!!!
Firstly, due to the vast improvement over the course of the last tournament, all players that were registered and accepted into the previous StarLeague are eligible for season 2.
I want to re-accept people who improve through the league in order to establish a progression of skill as opposed to a skill ceiling. Evidentally, once the pool of players who have progressed becomes large enough or their skill allows them to play in higher up leagues, they will be separated in from the league. For this reason, already existing B- skill players will not have access and will be forced to wait until sufficient players have moved onto that level for the division into two tournaments if such a day comes where it is viable. All the returning players are still required to sign up via email.
How to sign up:
You will need to send the following information to ASL2Register@gmail.com:
Most well-known ID: Race*: Your MAX achieved rank: IP address**: Easiest form of contact***:
Attach to the email 2 games per match up of yourself.(Replays 10 minutes or longer)
*The match ups you will using throughout the tournament. If you list any excess matchups that you do not use, you will be DQ'd **IP address is used for counter abuse purposes only. It will not be shared with anyone. ***This is so I can send reminders and updates to you about the league. This literally needs to be something you check everyday i.e. Skype, TL.net, etc The start date is September 1st at 1PM EST[local]
Stated in the video above, this season's qualifiers are unique and haven't really been done before in foreign BW. It's a qualifier called Up and Down.
The Up and Down format is a tournament format that supports a relatively small player count, for this reason, the qualifiers will be split into several pools of players. These 10 pools will be randomly assigned and will have players presented in a random order.
Within each pool, there will be a simultaneous number of games running equal to player count divided by two. If the number of players in a group is an odd number, the player in the last division will get a bye every round.
When players are assigned to their pools, they will also be given a placement number which represents their starting placement in the qualifier, a #1 would represent a first place start position whereas a #10 would present a 5th tier start location. These will be randomly assigned and will determine the innitial line up.
In order to qualify for the NoisE ASL 2, a player must finish in a top 3 position. One tier is gained per win and one is lost per defeat. In the end, the top 3 will consist of the players in tier 1 at the final game and the winner of tier 2 in the final game. The amount of games to be played per group will be equal to the amount of players in the group.
This count is equal to double the amount of skill categories, thus, give the players who were assigned lower positions sufficient time to climb back up if they have the skill requirement to qualify.
As seen in the example, with the exception of the first and last tier, every player is guaranteed to be playing the next game against the player who was previously either 2 below or 2 above.
All games for a group will be played over the course of one weekend, half will be played on the Saturday and the other half at the same time on the Sunday.
These maps will be used throughout the entirety of the tournament. Please download this map pack. If players host and play on incorrect versions of these maps, they will be disqualified.
1)All players are subject to administrative discretion.
2)All players are to sign up via email. No other source.
3)Bad manner directed towards fellow participants and/or ASL staff will result in a ban.
4)All games will be played on the Fish server in op ASL2.
5)All players must use minilauncer or chaoslauncher.
6)All replays of this stage must be sent to NoisEASL2@gmail.com. Failure to do this will mean DQ.
7)Players are required to make an ASL2 account in order to play their games e.g. ASL2.Shimy, ASL2-Shimy, ASL2)Shimy, etc
8) No Korean IP's will be allowed.
9) Players are required to send their IP address to league officials upon request.
10) Players are required to send replays of their games to league officials upon request.
11) If a player is experiencing an unplayable quantity of lag, they must leave the game before the two minute mark. Beyond this point, the player will be forced to play out the set.
12) Lag and IP conflicts will be handled on a case to case basis at the official's discretion.
13) If a player cannot play his match due to personal time issues, that player needs to contact ASL staff 72 hours beforehand and then their opponent 48 before their match to either PP the match or play early. Upon proof via screenshot of contact back and forth between player and opponent, the referee handling the case will then assign a date and time to be played, earlier or later than set time, at a time of mutual availability.
14) If a player does not show up within 15 minutes of the set game time, their opponent is given a W.O. victory. Technical issues do not apply and are done case by case by ASL officials.
15) If incorrect versions of the maps are used, the player will be DQ'd.

Chaos launcher and minilauncher are used and known to be almost impossible to hack(to my knowledge). Both are excellent launchers and are easy to get. There would be no reason to use wlauncher and complaints would be trivial.

Actually, minilauncher was getting hacked like crazy last season on Fish, so almost everyone there switched over to wlauncher because there were so many drophacks being used.

While you're insistent on causing pointless drama here, it's a moot point because it's highly unlikely that anyone uses wlauncher and it's highly unlikely that anyone gets in trouble for using wlauncher. You're digging where there's no gold...

I'm not causing drama, I'm just asking a simple question and having a discussion on a public forum. I'm just saying that I think wlauncher should be allowed as a 3rd-party program along with minilauncher and chaoslauncher.
