NinjaX was doing these, I decided to update my version. (Now in it's 3rd incarnation, version 2.2). Updated 4:40ish -5 GMT 8/31
Version 2.2 of my item builds. I don't bother keeping a changelog, I'm pretty certain I changed every hero in some way besides Visage. I removed a lot of fluff from builds (ie random bracers/null talismans on heroes who can't build them into anything. Getting a null talisman or bracer or wraith band should generally be on a game by game basis thing unless you're building a dagon/drums/aquila. Also removed vanguard from core on almost every hero it was on). I used some of NinjaX's builds as a base, some Valve ones. Thanks to dead9 for help with Gyrocopter, Silencer, Undying, Alchemist, Weaver as they're not my style of play.

I used this tool to change the item builds much more easily : http://code.google.com/p/d2ric/
If you wish to check what the item builds are before actually using them, make a backup of your default itembuilds folder and install D2RIC. It will be either at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota\itembuilds or C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota\itembuilds
Then install my recommended items into those folders and open D2RIC to look at what they are. If you don't like them, simply use the backup you made of your own to go back.
Purpose of this thread is to spread knowledge of the D2RIC tool (which is tremendously useful and I only know of due to a post buried in the general discussion) in addition to spreading a different recommended item set, and to allow for a thread where people can post their recommended item builds and discuss others. (NinjaX already has two but just to prevent clutter). If enough people like a set of recommended items I'll add them to this OP. Last edit: 2012-08-31 18:03:41 |

Needs more shadowblade. I think it is safe to assume that every hero in the game befits greatly from shadowblade which easily transfers over to Divine Rapier.
All joking aside, it would be nice if Valve had set up an option in DotA 2 to easily swap Recommended items. Sort of like texture packs for Minecraft. You can swap them without having to go into the folder itself. Either that, or allow us to make our own within the game and save them (and the saved ones can easily be given to others). |

You actually can make your own in the game and save them. Use the pencil button in the recommended items area of the shop to activate editing and you can save it as a specific name. (You can use the same build for multiple heroes like this, as you can also load a named build). The downside is that it doesn't save it is the default build folder so it's a little hard to find where they are.
The other downside is that you have to do it one hero at a time if you want to do default builds generally and load up 70 or so practice games.Last edit: 2012-08-20 13:19:23 |

| But you can't actually customise a build for each hero that will load automatically can you? Can't see it being very difficult, especially used in conjunction with Steam Cloud |

once you select a saved build for a hero it will load that as your default next time you play, or at least that is my experience with my Windrunner build.... I haven't got around to saving builds for other characters |

I don't believe it transfers between computers or accounts on the same computer but it definitely does stay for the same account on a computer typically. It would be nice if they transferred the itembuilds to the steam cloud as it's only about a KB per hero typically. |

I haven't looked at what you currently have, but core on gyrocopter is/should be: phase boots, wand, drums, BKB. If you're a primary farmer, butterfly is your capstone item in 9/10 games. Anything else is situational. Shadow blade and aghanims builds are inferior. |

I've updated those heroes and changed their builds, uploading it to the OP now. Just wondering two things - is Agh's really THAT good on undying? (My current core of vanguard/hood is probably worse I'll admit, I just didn't really think aghs did that much). Also, radiance still core on Alchemist? Maybe I just suck at farming but it always seems to come too late or he get ganked too often. I changed early to soulring with rob in situational (really I think PMS + Aquila could be core for him just so he can get some cheap armor).
I kept courier in the starting items for Silencer though I'll admit that these item builds are written for people who are at the level of understanding when they should be getting couriers/wards to start with and adjusting some. As well as that various other situational items are on every hero just not listed (ghost scepter/bkb/smoke mainly).
I also changed Batrider to have mekansm, drums, tranquil in situational. (Over Eul's/Vanguard. Moved treads to core but after blink so hopefully people understand you get the treads after the blink if you're rushing blink)

i like point booster + hood + arcane > aghs but idk how to fit that on core items; aghs just has a really nice buildup on alch non-radi builds suck except mjolnir. armor isn't actually that important til a bit later on in the game, usually his hp pool is big enough to withstand ganks whoops i forgot about ghost on silencer i think tranqs are better than treads on bat (like by a lot), it saves a chunk of time on the blink and you can skip bottle or roh
i'm at work so i haven't actually looked at any of the builds lol |

Don't worry, I left ghost on silencer lol.
I almost always go straight boots or tranquils into other items on bat (blink generally). Eventually I get phase/treads depending on if I need hp or ms. The current setup is trying to imply not even getting tranquil boots before getting blink.
It wouldn't be too hard to list that on core on undying, if you mean in that order. There's room for 9 items and you can list component items or just plain recipes with the new version of D2RIC. Last edit: 2012-08-31 17:43:03 |

| Came back to say thank you again, I've been using your buys and as I thought, it did picking up dota2 again a lot easier. I think I actually went on a 7 game win-streak or something like that due to better builds and improved confidence=P need to update to the new version now Last edit: 2012-09-04 07:09:39 |

| Thank you sir, I've started using this and was able to customize some stuff that I didn't like - most importantly OUTSIDE of the game. Thanks for sharing your builds as well. |

Thanks a lot!
I don't like the original dota2 items to get, and doing 1 by 1 is not my style.
:D Cheers. |

http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=5570 there's an alternate set of recommended items in this thread. They're a bit outdated for the most part but some people may prefer the older (they're mainly vanguard heavy) builds. Download the full install set and then extract the itembuilds folder.
Some people may find the whole batch of alterations interesting but for my purposes it's mainly focused on the itembuilds.
I'm probably going to do some small updates at some point, mainly focused on the starting items - I'm finding myself very rarely actually buying what I have as my recommended starting items, and not just because I generally buy the courier or wards. I'm also debating doing a pub and a learner's version that has completed item builds for newer players and one with pub stomping builds (aka lothars BH, dagon 5 ethereal furion, Phase janggo spectre, that type of thing).
Also, 1.4.1 of d2ric is outLast edit: 2012-09-19 11:24:37 |
