Hey TL, my rig is having tough times handling SC2 after patch 1.5 for some reason, even though my rig is (maybe) powerful enough to handle the game...In some custom games, when there are a lot of units on the map, the FPS drops drastically to 20-30fps...while streaming, I always have constant 60fps+ until I reach 2-3bases, the fps starts to drop under 60fps, in team games, when I stream, the frame rate starts really low (60fps), I would like to know if the problem is from my video card being defective or my cpu.
My Specs are: AMD Phenom II 1055T 2.8ghz 8GB Ram MSI GTX 570 Twin Frozr II 120GB SSD

All of these values look pretty fine to me.
When the framerates are really low, check GPU and CPU temperatures using a program like HWMonitor. |

On SC2 when you CTRL+ALT+F, when the FPS are low, it displays 40C...
Maybe an upgrade to Ivy Bridge might Fix the problem??Last edit: 2012-08-20 11:46:51 |

| I think thats your GPU. Need to test for CPU. Your processor is fine enough where I wouldnt seek an upgrade until next generation, 1155 is a dead CPU socket at this point. |

How is the 1155 socket dead? Ivy Bridge is 1155. Lol, and that just came out.
OP, I think the issue resides within your CPU, like Medrea said.Last edit: 2012-08-20 12:01:35 |

Yeah but not enough when in one year we will have another architecture on a completely new socket.

1155 is End of Life now with both Sandy Bridge, and its almost identical in performance but less power consumption version Ivy Bridge, being out for quite some time. Die shrinks dont result in huge performance gains but architectural changes do. In 2013 Haswell will be making its appearance and a new performance tier will be unlocked. So buying an all new setup thats still quite better but not earthshatteringly better isnt as attractive when in under 12 months it will be surpassed greatly.
You will be able to carry fans, cases, RAM, drives, GPU's and other devices over to the new 1150 socket and back, but no CPU's. When it comes to 1155, that book has been completely written. For someone with really old hardware, yes it makes sense to upgrade to ivy bridge, but flagship AMD still holds very well.Last edit: 2012-08-20 12:12:44 |

| Thats a whole nother can of worms. I dont try to stream on my 2500k since I cant stand the framerate unevenness. |

In starcraft 2 yes in almost any other game out there no not really.
SC2 is outlier because its all about the CPU. |

| So if I upgrade to a 3570k now, I will have absolutely no problems streaming and playing sc2 4v4 all maxed army?? |

3570k cant even run 1v1 lategame above 60 FPS unless huge enthusiast overclocks come into play. And thats while not streaming.
What made you think it could do 4v4 maxed while streaming??Last edit: 2012-08-20 13:29:00 |

Nope. My best minimum is around 41 FPS with 2500k @ 4.0 ghz.
My average over the replay is well above 60 FPS of course, but that final confrontation asks for so much pathing calculations that modern hardware cant do it at 60 FPS unless you got some crazy 5.5 ghz overclocks going on.Last edit: 2012-08-20 13:45:02 |

| 40 is playable unlike 25-30fps on my amd...and 10fps in team game...btw, Is playing the game on max settings fps same as while streamng fps on max? |

With a GPU like a 570, yes.
OK forget the charts anandtech removed SC2 from there testing formula because of the 1.5 snafu.
Also on a lot of benchmarks, they will attempt to make GPU matter by pumping the resolution and anti aliasing to crazy heights. So you cant really go by that anyway.
But yeah GPU is mostly irrelevant for SC2. I just like playing on lower settings so I can mine more bitcoins.Last edit: 2012-08-20 13:58:55 |
