Hey,
Iran has decided that Women are becoming too OP for their own good and has decided to release patch notes for an upcoming change........
However, joking aside, this is fucked up -_- :
In recent news a large number (at least 36) universities in Iran have decided to only allow men to participate in certain courses. A total of 77 courses all in all will during this year, allow men only.
Some universities disallow women completely from some entire categories of study, such as english litterature, computer science, electrical engineering, nuclear physics, business leadership... the list goes on.

Sigh....... :/ This is so enraging.Last edit: 2012-08-21 19:17:23 |

| Well, in the article it says that at the moment women are 65% of the total students. Its not uncommon the universities to want equal number of male and female students, so this is a way to regulate this I guess. |

How utterly revolting.
"Hey, you told us about all those hopes and dreams that you had for the future, and we like your passion, but we decided that because you don't have a dick between your legs, you're gonna have to go and do something else with your life."
Sincerely, the guy that was a janitor before the Islamic revolution.
The Iran government might be siding more with its hardline factions, fearing that it is permanently estranged the younger people and more modern inclined Iranians.
I'm glad that I do not have to face such disgusting practices, but it sickens me that others have their lives decided by commitees that dicate what they can and cannot do, with the only criteria being what's between your legs.Last edit: 2012-08-21 19:42:58 |

| Zalz, I think you should take it easy and not dramatize so much. After all, you are talking about the country with the highest highest ratio of female to male undergraduates in the world. |

| Affirmative action for men in higher education. I can see where they're coming from, most professional schools do it for underrepresented minorities in their specific field, obviously not outright banning them, but they do give them an edge. At least this topic is palpable, compared to the other one. Last edit: 2012-08-21 20:24:21 |

How in the world does that matter in the slightest?
People are being denied the chance to live life on their own terms because some bureacrat wants to tweak the numbers.
But these women can curl up at night next to a statistic, so that should keep them happy. What collectivist nonesense. |

I am surprised that women could actually attend universities in the first place. Honestly, Iran is shooting itself in the foot by denying women higher education. As much as I despise Israeli foreign policy, they do harm themselves like this due to an unhealthy attachment to traditional values.
And if Israel does wage war with Iran, it will put leftists like me in an incredibly awkward situation.Last edit: 2012-08-21 20:29:04 |

That still doesn't change the fact that there's a huge inequality in how males and females are treated. What good is attending & graduating from university, if you can't even study what you want? I know islamic-states are already notorious for this, but there's nothing wrong with bringing a little more to light.Last edit: 2012-08-21 20:25:51 |

I dont think you can justify to exclude women to take a specific degree just because they want to even out the number of studens between male and female.
Besides you are missing the whole point of this event. The reason for this action is that some theocratics believe this will have a social sideffect and a decline in marriage and birth rates. |

A bit off topic, but: Being married for 3 years, I gotta say, women are a bit OP. Somehow they are always right. I won't be surprised if they will rule the world in 50 years. Since males are too prone to bad habbits, catastrophic behaviour, inconsistency and moral failure. Don't mean to say that was a right call from Iran, it surely won't make any good to them.Last edit: 2012-08-21 20:33:11 |

"However, the science and higher education minister, Kamran Daneshjoo, dismissed the controversy, saying that 90% of degrees remain open to both sexes and that single-gender courses were needed to create "balance". " I do not agree on the state telling you what you should studdy or not, but 90% is a high number for an islamic country... much better than Araba Saudi if you ask me. By the way did not see anyone saying why no men in the "only for women" new city from the Saudi's

This is an utterly stupid practice but it's not exclusive to Iran or the islamic world in case anyone was trying to stir up hate again.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/06/vienna-medical-university-grading_n_1653924.html
VIENNA -- Antonio Bandera took a last nervous drag on his smoke Friday as he readied himself for the grueling eight-hour entrance exam for elite Vienna Medical University. Making the cut's hard enough, he said, and this year his chances may be even smaller: The university is grading men and women differently based on gender.
Student representative Christian Orashe said the new system is skewed precisely because it compensates for the fact that women score traditionally lower on average than men and the average is used as a departure point for how well each candidate scores. As a hypothetical example, if a man and a woman both score 130 points, the woman would be given a test grade of 117.7 compared to 114.8 for the man, based on separate averages of 102 points for males and 97 points for females . Right in the middle of the EU.
Cases like this and in the OP prove even higher education, the field where academic merit should be the only measurement is not safe from insane ideologists. As for Iran, bad way to screw over their youth especially with the population pyramid they have. |

Every nation in that zone is getting more extreme to one or the other side, and none of them is good. |

What with the whole Israeli saber rattling (the current logic seems to be, attack just before elections, pigeonhole Obama into not looking weak) I wonder if it will end up being such a terrible thing.
Iran and the rest of Islam needs to be dragged out of the Dark ages, considering their 1400 year history we just gotta hope they won't continue destroying themselves and everything around them for 600 more years. |
