So, I made a post awhile back saying that I lost all interest in SCII and that it got boring. I was looking for someone to give me some magical words of wisdom that would give me the drive to play again; that didn't happen. I took about 4-6 months off and randomly came back the other day to play my placement matches. I won 4/5 and got placed in platinum (the highest I've ever been ranked - before I didn't place above Silver league). I wouldn't say that my interest and love for the game has fully returned, but I can feel the "spark" slowly igniting.
I don't really get the urge to play the game much, but I'm starting to watch streams far more often than League streams, and I'm starting to watch the Day[9] Daily again.
The question that I have for YOU is if that has happened to you (wanting to watch streams, but not play for an extended period of time). It's not that I don't want to play. It's just more fun for me to watch than play at the moment. I feel like this is part of the "process" of coming back. Get Bored > Quit > Take Time Off > Regain Small Amount of Interest > Watch Streams > Please SCII.
I'm hoping that with this pace, I'll be back in the next month of so.
Let me know what you guys think. I'd love to hear your thoughts. |

Haha, I took like 11 month off of SC 2 because it became onesided and boring. I regained a lil bit of interest through a friend and then watched Liquid`Taeja rockin on every tournament he was participating. It was truly inspiring and I changed from Zerg to Terran and now I am full back to SC2 and train a lot.
So, yeah, my hero and inspiration is now Taeja and I want to become like him, my Chuck Norris of Starcraft |

Yeah, sure. I guess it's natural to have some highs and lows in your motivation. I think it applies to everything you do: also with sport other interests. |

Nope, my interest has continued to wane as the game has turned into more and more of a nr20fest. And what's worse is that the only race that retains some of the BW magic (Terran) is becoming increasingly less and less represented at tournaments, with only standouts like Mvp and Taeja making any noise. The two races I played and enjoyed most in BW have been turned into a ridiculous mockery of their former selves, with terrible macro mechanics screwing up the potential of the core units and inevitably leading to astoundingly boring T3 deathball turtle play.
HotS may give us a brief period of interesting play again as the metagame gets effectively reset, but if Blizzard insists on keeping stupid crap like inject and warp gates in the game, it'll just go the way of SC2, where the early and midgame died because turtling into lategame is the only effective way to play.
I quit laddering months ago and I haven't felt the slightest desire to go back. I don't really watch tournaments anymore unless there's a top tier Terran playing. I wish BW were still alive and kicking so I could watch PvZs and PvPs that are actually amazing.Last edit: 2012-08-21 20:37:40 |

Yeah, after ladder season 2, I kinda stopped playing as much as before, by lack of motivation/time/ladder fear. I would play a grand maximum of 10 games by season, plus a few teamgames or customs with friends, but I spent most of my time playing LoL.
Then Diablo 3 came out, I played it a lot and got bored really fast (like a lot of people). But even if I got bored of diablo quite fast, it was a bit of an eye-opener. Playing a solo game again where you dont rage/get raged at by stupid teammates after a year or so of LoL felt so fucking good, it made me come back at SC2, and I probably played more games this season than during any other (except maybe season 1 which was like 5 long as the others ofc :>) |

As I play more I become less interested in watching for some reason.
I think it may be because I am not as amazed by pros play as I used to be when I was terrabad. Also the meta game has got very campy and isnt really fun to watch |

| Actually, after BF3 come out, and my job its fully stressful, i decided not to play SC2 for a while until HOTS hits, i got bored seing the game being played like it has already past 8years!, because right now, SC2 has been figureout quickly, there is nothing new in the gameplay even at prolvl for me, and thats why i started playing BF3 on december and since them, i have play like 15games of SC2 since that time to here. |

| This happens with me much faster than what i'm seeing in this thread. Like every month or so i get frustrated and annoyed with the game and then take a week long break where i have no desire whatsoever to play. But when i do start playing i find that i improve more in my breaks than when im practicing. A break is what got me from diamond to rank 2 masters. |

Honestly playing any game (even if it isn't a ladder match) feels like a chore and more like a job if anything. The feeling of winning isn't enough to keep me playing much because constant stimulus becomes stale, and the feeling of improvement isn't much to excite me either because I know I will never be at the level of pros. Any knowledge and know-how into this game is worthless because of this fact. It's a hard fact that most successful pros have pure talent refined by determination, and determination alone isnt enough to compete with that. SC2 is designed poorly, to be stated blunt. The ability to be confined to a smaller area thanks to things like smart pathing and bases that provide a greater amount of resources than it's BW counterpart means that maps are inherently smaller and stale, and any sort of early-midgame conflict is unsightly. Im trying to breathe life back into my game by playing random and doing new strategies, but honestly I'd rather spend my time on other achievements, such as speedrunning a game or something, anything but sc2.

I've had Starcraft 2 since GSL season 1 and i played maybe 200 games until now!
For me it was always more about the pro scene then playing the game, i like it, it's fun but i prefer to watch the pros! |

I've been playing on and off since SC2 came ou, losing interest and switching races often. Been playing for 5 months now as Terran and haven't lost interest, even loving the game so much I want to go pro (a distant dream).
Im about to take a huge break for the school year T_T. Over the past summer, i really got better at SC2 and got involved in the TL community more. Love it and hate to leave it! |

Yes! all the time. I tend to play sc2 in periods, I get really into it and start practicing hard, I go up a league due to my improvements, then tend to take a brake for a while, watching gsl (because I payed for it ) then eventually get inspired to pick up the game again. |

Same here, I resorted to only watching tournaments (except pvps) but even that's become pretty boring thanks to the state of the game. Even worse, I don't see HoTS changing it, or at least improving. Pvp is... pvp. TvT is good is both players are good and aggressive. TvZ is hoping terran makes something happen before 10-12 minutes or most of the time he gets stomped. ZvZ turned from ling/bling massacres to infestor hoarding. And PvZ is, provided protoss doesn't 2 base all-in, a coin flip, does protoss get the vortex he needs or does mothership get np'd.
Went back to playing good, old games like HoMM 3 and Majesty.Last edit: 2012-08-21 21:54:25 |
