FPS drops on medium sc2 settings

Hello TL, I'm having trouble with my FPS (quite a long time). Ever since I bought this new PC (about 1 and a half year ago) I've been playing sc2 on low and my FPS stayed stable at 60. But now when I'm trying to stream (on low quality) or trying to anything on medium without streaming, I have massive FPS drops. Not just drops actually, it just stays around 20-40 FPS. Sometimes when I stream I get lucky and it stays around 50.

I've tried to search for threads to help me configure my settings but I couldn't find anything relevant to my situation. So far I've tried upgrading the software of all my hardware, cleaned my harddrive (541GB of 922GB available) and made sure no unnecessary programs were running in the background.

My specs (please let me know if I need to post more):
Processor: Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz
RAM: 6.00 GB
Type of system: 64 bit windows 7
Video card: AMD Radeon HD 6450 (1GB)
Resolution: 1920x1080
idk if this help since it's in dutch:[image loading]
some more info:

HD 6450 can't handle medium settings at just about any reasonable resolution. So if you want to play with higher than "low" GPU settings (e.g. shaders), you'll need a better video card. Your CPU should be able to handle streaming very well as long as your upload speed is decent.

Ok I added my resolution to the OP.
Even though you say the HD 6450 can't handle medium setting I still would like some advice on how to improve my FPS. Different setting? Buy a new video card? Maybe switch resolution? I'm not that good with computer so I would like to know what options I have.

Yes, you definitely need a new video card if you want to play with Medium or higher settings at 1920x1080. You could lower the resolution in-game to something like 1280x720 and use Medium, but I'm pretty sure that will make the game look terrible because it will rely on the monitor's scaling (assuming you leave the game to "fullscreen"), which always sucks. Or you could play in a window at a lower resolution, which isn't nice either.

If you want to make that upgrade, give us:
- budget
- your current power supply brand & model
- what you expect: Medium? High? Ultra? Even better performance for other games (SC2 is not that GPU-demanding)?
- where you're fromnevermind, Netherlands >_< I'm crazy... & where you can buy from (link to your favorite online store for exmple)

Thx for the reply once again. Right now my budget is around 150 euro's but honestly I don't know if I want/need to spent that much. Right now my expectation are to run sc2 in the lowest quality while streaming (with xsplit) in 720p 30fps (my upload speed will be 3Mbps soon) while having a stable 60fps myself. Also to do local recordings with sc2 with medium settings with either fraps or xsplit. I don't really have a favorite online store. So far i've used media markt to buy my keyboard/mouse from and I'm very happy with their service. But anything that ships to the Netherlands without a big shipping fee (I think 20 euro's shipping fee is about as much I would like to pay) works for me.

You don't need to spend even close to 150 euro, but the 6450 is a 30 euro card and is not meant for gaming at all. If you got even a 6770 that would handle medium at 1080p no problems

I got a last question here. My older PC has a nvidia geforce gtx 460 se video card which seems a lot better than the on I'm using right now. Do you guys know how I can find out if that video card will run on my system and what information I need for that?

Well, the HD 6450 should be able to handle lowest settings fine, it just can't do medium. Like I said, the streaming part is dependent on the CPU, and you should have no problems streaming 720p 30FPS with 3Mbps upload speed (though I'm not 100% sure on being able to do 30FPS; maybe 25? you will have to play around with it).

GTX 460SE is indeed much, much, much better than a 6450 (literally over 500% better) and will have no problem with High settings. Check your current PC's power supply - brand and model. Let us know what it is. If it's good and can provide sufficient power, you can just make the transplant - it's easy. If not, a good and appropriate power supply is probably about 60 euros.

Alright thanks a lot for the reply once again and thanks for your patience.
This is the info I think are significant from PC Wizard 2012 (please let me know if it's enough info, there's just so much in there):
Mainboard: Acer Aspire M3920
In the power status tab the Supply says Main supply. I do have a 500 watt power supply after I let my old PC get repaired about 1 year ago and the GTX 460SE ran fine on it, I'm not sure if I could use that one though.

I checked google really fast and most link say I have to open my PC case and look on the power supply itself. I'm not quite sure how it's supposed to look like though.

500W power for the GTX460 and i7 will not be enough. My system has similar hardware and it used to shut down randomly with 600W. I would suggest moving the GTX460 from your old PC to this one and buying a new power supply of 650W or 700W.
The more I practice, the luckier I get!

Im sure everything in mid and late game looks way way better now.

Vsync forces your framerates to line up with your monitor. So it caps at 60 FPS best case scenario, which is fine.

What isnt fine is when your GPU is even a little late your FPS gets capped to 30 (and 6450 is sort of a low end GPU). Vsync doesnt belong on SC2 anyway. Everything should be more responsive as well.

Also check to make sure you dont have "reduce mouse latency" or whatever checked.

No. OP's system doesnt even draw 250W from the wall. If your 600W can't handle then its a shit PSU. The wattage value for OP is fine, its more than double his needs >.>

Thanks for the respondse once again. However I'm currently not sure what power supply my current PC is using. The 500W one is in my old PC with the gtx460. I'm not sure where I can find it other than opening up my PC and looking for the power supply itself.

Its easy to find. You should check it for brand reliability. It should be written right along the side of the unit. Its where your computers power cord plugs into.
