So, I was not able to be there while the AT and T guy came and installed the internet into the house I'm moving into.

We had a linksys e3000. The guy set up an e1000. Obviously, the e3000 is better.

What do I need to do to replace the E1000 with the E3000, without royally fucking up the internet?

It seems to me that all I need to do is take the white cable plugged into the internet part of the e1000 and put it in the e3000, but that's WAY too easy.

Is it something along the lines of going to the ip address of the e1000 and copying down all the information there and then putting that information into the new router? I can do that.

Help me TL, I don't want to have a worse router than I have to because some guy decided he'll use his stuff instead of our better stuff.

if its just the router, you should have no problems. If the e3000 has some software for installing which most routers do then you should have no problem.

So just a simple unplug one router and plug in the other?

Yes. Your internet provider should give DHCP offers to your new router. It may take a reboot and up to 15 minutes for it to acquire an IP address though.

And it didnt work. At all. I just can connect to the router but not the internet. What should i do?

Ps: im drunk sorrry if i seem stupid

I plugged in the e1000 instead and it instantly worked. The one difference I can note is that the e3000 is not on wireless protected setup and the e1000 is. Perhaps thats the problem? Or does something else need to be done? Perhaps ATANDT likes to do something weird to their routers compared to others.

So I just copied down the Mac address of the Linksys e1000 and made the e3000 have the same mac address...it worked.

Does that do it? Am i set? I wish someone with more knowledge would come in.

Yes. Sometimes your ISP forces a sticky mac address on the port of their upstream router/switch preventing a new device from connecting, so when you spoof the old device's MAC address the ISP sees your new router as the old router.
