Basically 4 people spent 2 hours digging a 10-ft hole at a beach outside of Oxnard and one of them got inside the hole, to continue digging deeper and was shoveling up the sand to the surface.

I don't know how that could happen as this is something I've done all the time too. Basically, during low tide you can dig a deep hole near the shore. Then when a big wave comes in, it "elevators" you up to the surface and is really cool feeling, kinda like flying.

Anybody from the west coast heard of it?

:Edit, another story says he was buried under 6 feet of sand, but I don't know if it is counting how deep the hole originally was or if he was lying flat or whatever

Well this has been a real depressing day T_T

Can't imagine how his family feels, must be unbearable...but the worst thing is that it happened during a regular activity that so many others have done before him.

I had a friend who died tubing (going down a river sitting on a big tube) by getting his foot stuck on a branch. Even though it had been done countless times and was a popular activity in the area, you just need one thing to go wrong...

Man, this reminds me of a case few years ago where a Japanese couple fell into a hole on a beach that their friends dug as a prank, and got suffocated to death.
Better not mess with beach sands...

Every year on dutch beaches there's a handfull of Germans that die in holes they dug themselves...

Always makes me wonder... how dumb can you be ;/
