Hi,
So I recently started my way towards building a new computer and giving my old computer to my sister. I bought a new SSD/Case for her so I needed to port over all the other parts. I hadn't used the computer in around a month because I have been busy and the video card had weird sparkling and crashed when I went to play games sometimes and I hadn't gotten around to diagnosing/fixing it yet.
Anyway, so I put it all in the new case and when I go to power on everything goes but I get no video and no beeps. I reset the CMOS which didn't work so I pulled out the ram and turned it on again, still no beeps. I start getting worried my motherboard may be dead, I switch out my power supply and try again, still get the same result.
I send an email to Asrock and they tell me to make sure my speaker is working, switch PSU's and repaste my CPU. I already did the first two, so I repasted the CPU and I now get beeps but no video. If I remove the ram I get 4 long beeps if I remove the video card I get 5 fast beeps.
I have tried switching in an older VGA card and still got nothing, I tried different slots and still nothing, I tried removing different sticks of ram and still got nothing. I can't think of what else to do and Asrock support is a little slow.
The current specs are as follows: Phenom II 970 last time I remember it was OC'd to 4ghz but it should be reset now. 700w OCZ power supply, I also have an 850w Kingwin that I also used to test it. 4x2GB 1333 corsair ram HIS 1gb 5770 970 Extreme3 motherboard.
If you need any other information please ask.
Thanks guys.
edit: I think its extremely irrelevant but I will mention it anyway. I have everything plugged in too but no other fans turn on in my case. I assume something is just messed up and was going to just double check connections once I actually had the computer working.Last edit: 2012-09-02 08:57:32 |

What beep code do you get when you have all the essential stuff plugged in?
Look up the bios type in your mobo manual and find the beep codes here: http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm |

| When everything is plugged in there is no beeps, that's one of the problems. I only get beeps when I remove the VGA card/RAM now. |

Motherboards unfortunately don't all beep at startup unless there's an error. Plug in a hard wired keyboard and check whether the num lock light toggles when you press the num lock key.
The line about having everything plugged in worries me. At this stage you should have everything removed except one stick of RAM, CPU, heatsink and video card. Monitor and PS2 keyboard should be attached, but no USB devices, internal or external. No additional fans except CPU HSF, no drives.

| Right now I believe I have ram, cpu, video card plugged in. I unplugged all SATA ports from the computer and it still won't post. |

| I recently had the same problem and it was the motherboard. Did you remove the motherboard from the case place it in a wooden surface, leave only 1 ram in and nothing else and tell us what you get. another suggestion is to try and see if ur VGA is working on another computer. your PSU sounds its fine. think the issue is the motherboard. |

Few things i would do make it 99% sure the MB is broken.
Unplug _everything_. all case usb, fw, audio etc small cables. Do a foolproof cmos reset with unplugging the powercable and removing the MB battery for a few minutes. Use only one stick of ram in the first channel, first slot. Use a ps2 keyboard, mouse not needed. No optical drive or any hdd. (not required for getting to bios etc). Test the vga cards in a actually working computer!
Did you connect any of the usb, firewire and audio cables from the new case to the motherboard? for example: plugging a firewire cable to a usb will damage any motherboard. etcLast edit: 2012-09-03 18:57:58 |

lol wow, I totally did something stupid. When I repasted the card I must of knocked my monitor side of the DVI cable loose, so when I never got video even though I was still getting beeps I didn't even look over there. I pushed the cable in and now its posting fine lolol. The monitor says "No signal" when there is no cable, but when its partly plugged in apparently it gives the appearance of not getting video, but being plugged in. So dumb.
Absolutely stupid lol |
