Poor every esports company ever, now any effort they make will be compared to Riot and Valve's incredible prize pools. Seems like an okay format though, shades of MSL. Still not quite sure I understand why every tournament organizer is in love with formats that sound super complex when you try to explain them. Probably should be picture-only descriptions in the future.
Riot is making more money from in-game shops that blizzard ever made of Sc2 nad BW , i think its sound stupid , but MABY Riot in making more money from in-game shop that blizzard from WoW.
If I'm not mistaken WoW made more money a month than most major companies entire ranges made in a year. With MOP coming out Blizzard are in for a windfall. |

Yep, but not every Starcraft 2 players watch GSL. Therefore, some explanation about the format is needed.
no exaclty, GSL has 2 groupstages (ro32 and ro16, only ro8+ is single elimination) |

Basically GSL format, but instead of seeding into a Ro16 groupstage, they just go straight to a bracket. I thought their picture explanation was a little weird until I realized that it's just another way to represent how GSL groups work lol.
About the prize pool, I think anything less than a six-figure first prize will be extremely disappointing. Given how hyped up this has been, I would be pretty sad to hear "and the first prize of Worlds is $xx000". Even if it's "only" $100k, I think Blizzard would probably like the idea of hosting the richest single SC2 tournament ever to cap off the WCS, and that would be more than enough to clinch that. |

Asia: $127,000 and all trips paid to WCS World Finals(9), and Asia Finals(32). Europe: $190,000 and all trips paid to WCS World Finals(9), and Europe Finals(32). North America: $120,000 and all trips paid to WCS World Finals(9), and North America Finals(32). Oceania: $30,000 and all trips paid to WCS World Finals(2), and Oceania Finals(8). South America: $45,000 and all trips paid to WCS World Finals (3) and South America Finals(16). Total of $512,000 in prize pool, with the WCS World Finals prize pool still to be announced. While not as large as Valve's $1.6 million, it's still nothing to laugh at.
The final prize pool is yet to be announced. Plus, this event is way more awesome than the International. Dota2 is doing a lot of small things that blizzard really needs to pick up on, but as far as WCS vs the International, WCS is leaps and bounds better executed and thought out. |

We never gonna see that big prize money in sc2 , because there will be NO in-game shop. Its a shame because i love bw/sc2 more that any moba game ( love dota <3 ) , but its still biznes
Not a chance, WoW has made billions over the years. A fraction of that can go to server costs and salary as well as bonuses for various emplyoees, but it's fairly obvious that Blizzard has plenty of $$$ from WoW. A game at it's peak had like nearly or around 13million paying suscribers paying maybe on average $14 a month for the span of at least a few years not including paid transactions for possible character moves, race/gender changes, and so on. No way RIOT can match the amount of profit Blizzard has had with WoW.

I don't think it'll be that much money. DOTA Invitational was ridiculously high money for an unproven new game to GAIN viewers and players. This is the biggest tournament for SC2, but I don't think the goal is so much to have new players and viewers, more like to keep the current viewers happy and to keep the game relevant. I expect 200k tournament. |

Also important to note that League and DOTA2 are games that involve multiple people on the same team. From a raw money standpoint it looks like a lot, but per person its going to be roughly equal.
One fifth of one million is still ten times as much as you can make from an MLG championship win..
yes, but sc2 has many many more events on MLG prizepool scale (most big premiers) compared to dota2 with the international (once year; most dota2 tourneys are <10k). overall, prize pool support is much better for sc2 |

Also MLG is much more spread out so more places benefited (one to thirty two or whatever)
1.6 million over five is 320k.one mlg championship is 76kx4 per year is 296k, plus the arenas. Then you have dream hack, then IPL, then nasl, then GSL, so definitely more individual money in sc and overall prize pool seems similar. |

Thats why i write MABY , who knows how much blizzard is making from WoW now..they lost 3-5 milions subscribers from WoW ( some people say its 3 , some that 5 or even more.. ) Its just world.. of games , there is no way , that any RTS game will be that popular , like MMO or free to download and play MOBA game. But when we look at this in other way its not that bad. IG win 1 000 000$ at The International...so its 250 000 per player , and that big Dota 2 tournament is once a year ? or two ( i dont really know ) . Best sc2 players earn plus/minus 100 000 $ just in 2012+ mothly pay check , so its around 120 000-150 000$ per year. Other thing is that mid tier sc2 pro gamers earn MORE that mid tier dota 2 or LoL pro gamers , they have no chances at big tournaments like The International , so they have no change to make good cash , where mid tier Sc2 pro gamers earn in just 2012 plus/minus 30 000$.
So top 5 Dota 2 LoL teams are making good cash , but mid tier teams not that much like mid tier sc2 players.
The real question is .. who works harder for that money.. , who click mouse and keyborad buttons more..? Sc2 or Dota 2 players ? :D Milion Dollar qustion

| This can be summed up to being exactly the same as GSL but with groups being more equally distributed. |

Blizzard makes 130 mil a month from subs alone, i would be surprised if riot made 1/5 of that. |

Great that it uses the GSL format with slight modification (single elimination from ro16 instead of the 2nd group stage).
I really dislike full double elimination tournaments with a passion and am so glad that the trend is disappearing. |

bo3
In the group stage, the 4 players of each group are split into two pairs and will play each other in best of 3 matches
