the online qualifiers are for group play. wouldn't be an open bracket if you had to qualify for it. |

I agree there is really no point to the arena anymore when MLG can just invite 8 players to go into pool play. Whats the point of qualifying then? |

I think that if we have no arena's and four MLG's a year spread out 2-3 months apart each MLG will be much more meaningful and much more hyped by the community, the summer championship came out of nowhere for a lot of people and I feel like the general consensus is that no one cared about it. |

Arena is still happening, accordng to the Fall Season Overview:
September 28-30: Fall League of Legends Arena – New York City, MLG Studio
September 23-Oct 11: Fall SCII Open Online Qualifiers - Online
October 7-18: Fall SCII Invite-Only Online Qualifiers - Online
October 5-7: Fall StarCraft II Arena – New York City, MLG Studio
November 2-4: Fall Championship – Dallas, TX, Dallas Convention Center
As you can see, it will be happening during the online qualification process this time. From Sundance's tweet, it appears to be more of a "special" event (hopefully with KeSPA players showing up this time) that might not have anything to do with the Championship. With the top 8 finishers from Raleigh being invited to the IOOQ, it's likely that the 24 Group Play seeds will be awarded from there.

The inital Arena seemed like it was most likely a success based on PPV and all the talk about it (negative or not, you know the saying, all publicity is good publicity). Later arenas likely didnt seem as hyped up and likely didnt yield the same profit. They tried making it free and eventually removing it completely. A bit sad, but understandable, flying 32ppl across the globe isnt cheap.
Obviously they need to introduce something else there will be an uproar about! |

Yeah, but the thing is that passing the online qualifier does not guarantee you a seed in the mlg. You then need to pass another online qualifier with around 100 players to be seeded. I.e. basically you pay 10 $ to get a chance to stand at the same level as Desrow or Destiny, which is a bit hilarious if I look at the participants of the last Korean qualifier. |
