I seriously can't thank blizzard enough for how incredible they've been the past year. With WCS and all the HoTS stuff. They've just been incredible. I cannot WAIT for this tournament!!

Couldn't agree more! :D

Oh Blizzard, the more time goes on, the more I realize you have become cheap money-grubbing bastards thanks to Activision (I blame them, not you). Valve has a much less hyped tournament, and they put out 10x the prize-pool, plus their company isn't even worth close to what you are. So sad, guess I'm just going to have to realize times change and move on.

What do you think THIS is? In fact, it's less than once a year.

actually, the total wcs prize pool is about 800k, not including flights (yes i know valve flew out the dota2 ppl as well, but blizzard flew everyone for the nationals and continentals too)

Not to mention, the prizes are much better distributed and players have a much higher chance of qualifying, which fosters growth for the game world wide. It's not an invitational. It's hardly "once a year" as well as the events have been going on for the entire summer. Valve's tournament only lasted a week, unless you count the invitational-qualifiers.

I am surprised that we as a community don't support this event even more. This is as close to a World Cup for SC2 that we will get.

Yes very good prize pool. Go blizzard! The winner is going to be one lucky person!

Hmm, I think Blizzard could probably attract more attention to SC2 by making the prize pool even bigger. I mean, LoL's version of the WCS has a $2 million prize pool. Ahh well, just a possibility, it's pretty good as it is I guess.

This is what I would expect from Blizzard. You don't go through all the trouble of hosting national and regional finals to give away 50k in chump change for first.

Seems like a good prize pool. Blizzard put a lot into nationals/continentals too, so there's a lot more than the 250k for the championships. I want a foreigner!!!

I think it is a very good prizepool. It will still be the tournament, which will bring a world-champion, but it will not crush other tournament. Like "The International" with Dota. Every other tournament will come short compared to 1,6mio.
And 100.000 for the winner and 150.000 for the rest seems pretty good for everyone competing at the world finals!

While the International's prize pool looks quite large at first, remember that each award will be split at least 5 ways (some of the larger organizations will take 10% just to help cover travel expenses and management/staff salaries, if applicable. [10/18/18/18/18/18 split]), meaning that each player on the winning team is only getting 180k-200k, which isn't that much larger.

Even still, I definitely agree that the 3rd party tourneys have some catching up to do.

I meant, its a well considered prizepool by blizzard. Its is still the highest first place we have seen so far. But not so high, that other tournaments look cheap, if compared.

False- Super Tournament for GSL had 100k first place prize, but a HUGE drop-off for second

MVP/MC might be regretting about going to IEM now......

I am hoping for Stepheno or Creator.

Pretty sure MVP didn't have a choice as LG had a both for them there. MC, not too sure.

Kind of weird that such a huge tournament in terms of prize pool is fielding such a weak player roster.

Too many seeds from North America, South America, and SEA and too many national winners getting free seeds into the world finals means there are less spots for the best players (read: Koreans). This tournament is missing MC, MVP, Nestea, MMA, DRG, MKP, Polt, Taeja, Violet, Leenock. Of the 19 non-Koreans already qualified, I peg three players that really deserve to be at a tournament of this size: Stephano, Scarlett, and Sen. (honorable mentions: Major, Huk, Vibe, Socke).

Oh well, what are ya gonna do. Without any crazy bad luck brackets, Seed, Parting, Creator, Squirtle and HerO hopefully will qualify through the Asian Finals, plus the European Finals field looks pretty strong, top 6 out of there should be pretty good too.

That's what a WC is all about and i think it's great for "smaller" communities.

Prize pool does not a competition make. MLG has shown that across a variety of formats. I'm much more interested to see all the final representatives in each region compete -- hoping to see some great storylines and, with any luck, great upsets at the world finals in China. :D
