StarCraft II Main Tournament

The main tournament will consist of a double elimination 64-player 1v1 bracket. Each round will be a Bo3 until the semi-finals, where rounds will continue as Bo5. Competitors of any rank will be welcome to give the tournament a try, and players advancing to the Ro8 will win tiered money and prizes depending on their final placement.

Consolation Tournament

Because it sucks to be knocked out of a LAN early, we will be hosting an additional 1v1 tournament with a smaller prize pool later in the day. This will be a second chance for many of the competitors who hit an unlucky string of matches and still have more to show. Prizes will include coaching sessions from our schools aces such as ruxin, Tbeezy and Spanishiwa, as well as gaming gear, gift cards and swag.

League of Legends Tournament

The main tournament will consist of a double elimination 8 teams 1v1 bracket. Each round will be a Bo3 until the finals, where rounds will continue as Bo5. Competitors of any rating will be welcome to give the tournament a try, and teams advancing to the Ro4 will win tiered money and prizes.

How did you get into StarCraft II?
I started playing BroodWar when I was 10, when it first came out I got it. I didn’t play it competitively I just played fastest map possible, EDH. I played a lot of WarCraft III when it came out as well. I didn’t play it at a competitive level, but I started to play a lot more 1v1s. Then when StarCraft II started to get announced, I didn’t manage to get in the first waves of beta, but when it was announced that if you preordered the game you would get into the beta, that’s when I managed to start playing StarCraft II. So that’s what I did.

What race did you play back then?
Protoss, I’ve been playing Protoss for two years.

Why did you pick Protoss at first was it because of BroodWar?
It was actually because of chrono boost. It was l8ike “I could build myself faster” which is way cooler than larva. I just though t it was so much cooler than WarCraft and BW mechanics.

Was it hard to transition over from WarCraft III or BW?
Not really. You have to understand that it’s a different game, so it transfers over in that you’re controlling units, but the game itself is much different. I just played more StarCraft II and it wasn’t a problem really.

When you started off where would you say you were?
I placed into platinum and then made it into masters pretty much when it came out. I’ve been there since the beta. I would really like to make it into grandmaster some day, but that’s a lot of work. The closest I’ve been would be around 2 seasons ago when I was going 50/50 against them. I stopped practicing after that because of school, and haven’t been able to get closer.

Was there a season where you went from an alright player to top masters? Or was it pretty steady?
I wouldn’t say that I’m that good now, but it was actually last year. I took two quarters off of school and that’s when I started to play a lot of StarCraft and became really good. That’s when I started to get better and play against grand masters.

So now that you’re back in school, how do you balance the two?
To me, school comes first. StarCraft to me is just a game. I mean its really fun, but if you want to get really good it takes so much time, and tis really hard to find the time sometimes. School first and then StarCraft, and then working out.

Would you consider yourself a mechanical or strategy player?
Oh definitely mechanical, that’s why I lose so much to grand masters because my understand of the game isn’t really that high. I have one or two solid builds for every matchup and that’s what I do for practice on the ladder. But yeah, my understanding is really low, it’s kind of weird. My “understanding” comes from playing it so much and not wanting to die.

Would you say you have a favorite unit?
Definitely chrono-boost! But if it has to be a unit, I would have to pick the Stalker. There’s just so much that you can do with that unit. I mean, when Parting was playing MKP the toerh day, he showed us that you can micro to their death, and its kind of ridiculous.

What’ s your favorite matchup?
Has to be PvP.

PvP!? Isn’t that just a lot of coin flips?

I don’t think so, it depends on the map. As long as there is a ramp that you can force field, I feel like I can guarantee a win. With maps like Tal’darim I would rather play a PvT, but PvP in general a lot better. I’m able to open with phoenix and it allows you to get such a nice control of the game.
