Here are a handful of reactions from the community that I picked out over about 5 pages of forum chatter:

Here are some things I learned from this brief sampling, in no particular order:

-Competitive Starcraft would cease to exist if he were not punished,

-Stephano is going to jail since he lives in America,

-He doesn't understand what he was saying because he is French,

-If Laffy Taffy has taught us anything, it is that all jokes require punchlines or wordplay,

-Statutory rape isn't all bad,

-He didn't know Bling was streaming and hadn't considered the possibility when he chose to randomly message him something wildly offensive out of the blue,

-Stephano is a rapist.

This all reminds me of the time when he got in a huge fight with DeMuslim on stream. As you may well know, they are bitter enemies. See for yourself:

Or maybe, just maybe, Stephano likes to troll and he KNEW people were watching Bling's stream. And he thought to himself "you know what would be funny? If I trolled this guy's stream and said something outrageous that would get a few really dumb people to get really butt-hurt, and then we will all laugh at them."

Stephano is guilty. He is guilty of believing (in error) that you are not a total dumbass.

This is very anecdotal, but i just want to make a point.
i know of an american guy, who worked at a bank in the netherlands. The first thing that surprises him is you can say whatever you want and make jokes about whatever you want. (truth of this statement doesn't matter for the point i'm making) He worked there for like 3 years, and then went back to go and work for another bank. No real problems, until he made an innocent remark on someone's skin color. It was very innocent, it was used for descriptional purposes. Charges were made against him for that. I don't actually know how it ended, we lost contact.
Now, this story is in no way comparable to this issue, but the point is the following: there is a difference in culture in terms of reactions to someone's statements. That's why you have to be especially careful about choosing your words in an international environment. I'm not saying that it's all right because of that, what i'm saying is that people in this thread seem to know exactly what should done or what people 'just' don't do. Not only from americans, but i also saw some reactions from dutchies and french people. It is no crime to judge him to your own standards, but doing so, blind of other possibities, is foolish. Also, this is not restricted to cultures. It depends of what kind of people one speaks with. While i personally would never make such jokes, and i would estimate that my closest friends wouldn't either, i would be lying if i said i never heard jokes comparable to this one in terms of crudeness (assuming it was a joke, of course), while others i know would be apalled by such a joke.

Now, as a reaction to both quoted posts: tMomiji wrote about how he thinks that the joke could be misinterpreted. That is correct. There is no apparent reason not doubt truth of the statements, until the statement about kids and milfs came. After that, the face of bling and the 'i hope you're not streaming' comment made the confusion even worse. If these statements were shocking, i can't blame anyone. This is also where my anecdote doesn't work; if taken serious, the comment is not innocent. To say some things are just taboo is, in my experience or form my perspective, no surprise coming from an american. I'm not trying to look down on this. Though i don't the attitude, it's a perfectly reasonable attitude to have. In that sense, i can imagine why it looks like a cultural issue. In that sense i agree with Divicus1er. However, i slightly disagree with the sense that is't only or primarily a case of cultural differences. As i said before, in an international environment, one has to be very careful in what to say. If a joke is made, one has to take into account the cultures to which your statements are directed. In this case, it's very unfortunate that stephano wasn't aware of the statements being published. But the principle still applies. Because of the international environment, EG could not have done anything else than punish him. In an international environment, even if there are 10% (just making this number up ofcourse) of the people shocked by your statement, the organisation must do something about it. Internationally, the source of disapprovement may not spread, but the disapprovement itself does. In a national environment, this effect is much smaller, because there are less misconceptions about how to interpret this disapprovement (although 10% of your customers still is much, so maybe the number wasn't chosen correctly).

These are my views on this subject assuming this was a joke.
Please don't think of me as a fanboy or a hater, i tried to write this as unbiased as possible. Especially towards the people from the us, don't take this too negatively.

He signed away his typical free speech in public when he signed the EG contract, i suppose. EG needs some assurance that he isn't alienating the team from its fan base and sponsors. It's business, is all.

Holy crap, even when you punch people in the face with a point they still don't get it.

Stephano, who was sitting six feet from DeMuslim, was trolling the stream. He was saying offensive things, and claiming DeMuslim was saying offensive things, to get a rise out of REALLY DUMB viewers. Because it is funny.

But it is less funny if nobody is smart enough to get your joke...

If you think he is guilty ask yourself this: Would you commit a crime like sex with a minor, and then confess it to a random guy you are playing on the ladder? Probably not, nobody is that stupid, and I'd wager SC2 pros are the opposite of stupid.

Not guilty? Then it was a joke and there are many people who don't "get it" or understand the point of it. Check out comedians like Jimmy Carr or Frankie Boyle, the style of humour is brutal, cringe-worthy and offensive. But that's the point, you are shocked, then appalled, then laughing, and then appalled again because you found it funny and have no moral standards. Honestly check them out they are very funny.

They were 2v2 teammates in competitive SC2 and have even won championships together. Hardly a random guy on the ladder.

people are just reading way too much into this and blowing this out of proportion. I'm 95 percent sure stephano didn't rape anyone or even had sex with a 14 year old girl. I mean what's stopping me from going online on sc2 and typing: 'I abused of a 14 year old' in a ladder game.

Trolling is literally trying to evoke responses by shocking, annoying,... people.
Why would I say that i abused a 14 year old? To get a response out of people and because it's actually funny to see people's responses.

Something similar and rather funny (which happens a lot in tv programms like simpsons, futurama or animes, movies,...) is when you say hello to one of your friends or ask him a basic question and he suddenly shakingly spits out a story about how he freaked out because of all the blood, didn't know what to do and buried the body somewhere,... lol.

14 is not 12. At 14, most teenagers have a sexual life, have known love and are fairly emancipated of their parents. A lot of people around me have had their first sexual relations at age 14.

I don't know what fantasy world you live in, but if I was a betting man, I'd put money on the fact that the majority of 14-year-old teenagers (lets just take teenagers in western developed countries to eliminate cultural differences) do NOT have a sexual life yet. Furthermore, it's laughable to claim that most 14-year-olds have known love. Most young adults haven't even known love, let alone someone who is only 14. Teenage angst and rebellion should not be confused with autonomy. The vast, vast majority of 14-year-olds still need their parents for pretty much anything, and if they were faced with a real problem calling for true independence, they'd run to their parents in a heartbeat. Finally, 14-year-olds are still woefully immature. Of course you can come along with random anecdotal evidence saying that you've met immature young adults or you've met young couples with 6+ years separating them and they've worked, but this doesn't change the fact that a 19-year-old has gone through a LOT more in life when compared to a 14-year-old, on average.

And? You need to have had the same amount of experience in life to have sex with someone? I guess my father should go in jail for marrying a 20 years old woman when he was 32.

Now on absolute age:

I had my first girlfriend at 15, I was very much in love and we had sex. Like half of people around me. You can play on words saying we didn't really know what love is or whatever. That's your opinion about love. Maybe it was not the deep love with which you found a family and make a whole life together. Don't care, agree, that's not what we are talking about.

If there are countries were the average of the first intercourse is 15, you can bet a huge amount of young people then have it at 14 or younger.

There is no issue between 20 and 32 year old people having sex, there is no issue between 15 year olds having sex with 15 year olds.

There is a problem with people saying 19 year olds having sex with 14 year olds is fine and acceptable.

If it's fine for two 15 years old to have sex together, it's fine for a 19 and a 15, or a 14 to have sex together too.

Some people are more mature at 14 than at 19. I had a 15 years old girlfriend when I was 17 who was more mature than me by a mile.
